Job Description: POSITION: Support Assistant DEPARTMENT: Sheriff WORK SCHEDULE: As scheduled (working up to 28 hours per week) STATUS: Part-time FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Incumbent serves as Support Assistant for the Sheriff, responsible for providing assistance to support department personnel. DUTIES: Assists the purchasing agent with maintaining accurate inventory of department supplies and equipment, and monitors expenditures, processes purchase orders, claims and vouchers. Maintains current and working knowledge of department-related supplies, technology, and equipment. Researches and prepares specifications for purchase of new equipment and related items, obtains quotes, determines applicability and cost-effectiveness, and makes purchasing recommendations. Assists with maintaining the serviceability of equipment and supplies. Assist with hooking up trailers, loading and moving equipment and other logistic needs. Assists with the management of the agency fleet, fuel system & UPS (uninterrupted power supply).

  • Monitor pool vehicles and specialty vehicles
Assists the training coordinator with training related activities. Assists the public information officer with events and other various activities. Performs various clerical duties as assigned/requested, such as typing, faxing reports, scanning documents, locating records on computer, and assisting department personnel. Performs related duties as assigned. I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK High school diploma or GED. Valid Indiana Driver's License Working knowledge of department policies and procedures and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks. Ability to type with speed and accuracy and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, and copier. Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records according to state requirements. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism. Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers. Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions. Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, various law enforcement agencies, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct. II. RESPONSIBILITY Incumbent performs standard, recurring duties according to department policies and procedures. Incumbent works closely with supervisor in determining assignments, with priorities determined primarily by service needs of the public and the agency. Errors in incumbent's work are usually prevented through legally defined procedures and are detected through supervisory review. Undetected errors may result in work delays to other agencies/departments. III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, various law enforcement agencies, and the public for the purpose of exchanging information. Reports directly to Support Sergeant. IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment, involving sitting for long periods, sitting and walking at will, keyboarding, hearing communication, speaking clearly, reaching, lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 50 pounds, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
