Program: Wellness Centers
Position Summary
The Support Host for the Helping Hands of Lompoc Wellness Center (H2L) is responsible for the organization and direction of the Wellness Center designed to assist adult with psychiatric disabilities in acquiring and enhancing skills that will help enable them to live and work successfully in the community utilizing a trauma informed approach. This position promotes social rehabilitation, independence, wellness and recovery both inside the community and outside, to the surrounding community. The Support Host is responsible for having knowledge and skills in all aspects of the program. The Support Host will uphold and promote the program philosophy as well as the philosophy of TMHA in all duties performed.
Hours/ Salary
Part-time, non-exempt position. 20 Hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $20.00-$22.00 depending on experience. Includes $1.00 bilingual differential for those who qualify. Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Supervises members of mental health services offering social support, skills training, recreation activities, and assistance with independent living.
2. Provides safe transportation to members by driving them to activities as necessary. Performs basic safety checks on program facility, and vehicle maintenance, shops for program needs, and organized leisure activities. May be required to perform some janitorial services and house maintenance.
3. Assist with the planning & preparing food for monthly luncheons including the purchasing of food items, proper storage and handling of food.
4. Organize and maintain weekly cleaning schedule to ensure sanitary, and safe work environment.
5. Functions as a role model to members with regard to treatment, communication, and work behavior.
6. Meets with and communicates program issues to the Program Supervisor and works as part of a collaborative team with peers, members, and the staff of other TMHA programs, BeWell and other agencies.
7. As an employee it is part of your responsibility to establish and maintain a positive working environment.
8. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA's Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication.
9. Communicates both positive and negative feedback clearly and in a timely manner with staff. Remains approachable and open for staff to communicate problems or ask questions. Gives staff performance assessments on time.
10. Leads by example and empowers members to grow and expand their abilities and knowledge.
11. Represents management positively and takes ownership of policies when enforcing them. When questions or issues with management arise, they are directed to management for resolution. Accepts constructive feedback from supervisor and others.
12. Facilitates group discussions and activities, Co-facilitates groups as needed.
13. Completes documentation by following standards set by Santa Barbara County Behavioral Wellness and TMHA.
14. Is responsible for upholding agency policies and ensuring accurate program paperwork and documentation is completed and deadlines are met.
15. Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor
Job Environment:
1. Moderate, physical activity; may include moving or lifting up to 50 lbs.
2. Involves moderate risks that require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potentially intense situations.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent. Individuals must have lived experience as a consumer or family member of mental health services. Spanish bilingual/bicultural preferred. State certified peer specialist preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral, written, and communication skills. Well defined organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. Able to work effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace. Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction. Ability to mindfully promote equality, respect, and diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, and all the other fascinating characteristics that make us different. Conditions of employment include: Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver's License, at least 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA's current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace. Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with members and/or other employees. Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
