This program is a rigorous work and learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. This position requires a detailed oriented and self-motivated individual. This position is located on a Forest Service unit and is responsible for providing the public with outstanding customer service at Uwharrie District Office.Duties:
- Responsible for ensuring front desk coverage is maintained during normal business hours. This may include options such as hiring short term help, volunteers, interns, contractors, or other staff available on the district.
- Responsible for oversight of all front desk operations including supervision of POSS sales, security of passes and other accountable property, and providing customer service to the public, partners and USFS staff.
- Responsible for oversight of employee check-in/out sheet and radio communication with district staff. Immediately notifies DR and/or supervisor when employees have failed to report in on time.
- Responsible for ensuring timely counting and deposit of collections from campgrounds and vendors through coordination with the Recreation Staff each week.
- Responsible for ensuring mailroom is well stocked and functioning in a manner that provides adequate services to the district staff.
- Responsible for ensuring parking lot and office kiosk is well stocked, clear of debris/snow or ice. Communicates needs to clean parking lot with rec or fire staff.
- When working directly with the public, provide professional, courteous, timely and accurate information in an efficient manner. Confirm accuracy of policy as necessary with supervisor or other staff. Proactively resolve issues or complaints from the public in a timely manner. Seek assistance from DR, acting DR, recreation staff or appropriate program area staff officer as necessary to resolve an issue.
- Identify opportunities to improve RD office functionality and appearance for benefit of public and employees.
- Maintain qualifications as purchase card holder, collection officer, sale of firewood permits and other roles necessary for position.
- Consolidate and monitor planned acquisition and purchase list. Communicate directly with district program managers regarding available remaining funding for purchases, travel/training, etc
- Mercury Database receive, review, all outgoing correspondence following process and database process within Mercury.
- Unit Collection Officer- manage UCO duties for Uwharrie NF. Assist in coordinating all POSS and Recreation fees collection processes with District personnel and develop improved strategies when/where needed.
- Budget- maintain understanding of Forest/District budget processes, expenditures, and remaining fund balances.
- Communicate reminders to district via email, staff meetings, or at monthly staff meetings regarding paycheck submittals or other unique circumstances related to pay, travel, etc.
- Micro-purchasing- Act as the lead micro-purchasing agent for the Uwharrie. Maintain all training requirements for yourself. Ensure requisition forms for all purchases are filled out and signed by the Supervisor/District Ranger.
- Serve as lead for entering contract actions into IAS. Ensure IAS requisitions are correctly entered through coordination with district staff and/or SO.
- Maintain records to standard for purchasing, delegations of authority, etc.
Qualifications:Completion of 2 years at an accredited university, an Associate's degree, or higherUS citizenship or permanent residency.
