Under direction of the Support Staff Supervisor this position is responsible for the safety and security of program participants and the facility. Working with other Support Staff members, this individual conducts screenings, intakes, orientations and discharges during participants stay in shelter. This individual observes and helps program participants with basic needs; assists in conflict resolution and crisis intervention; monitors and supports participants with their case plans; addresses, documents, and reports all participant performance; and performs a variety of other duties to assist participants while in shelter. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc., through Next Move Homeless Services, Inc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather information from clients either in person or by telephone to determine their needs and eligibility for assistance.
  • Conduct intake process and prepare intake records for participants accepted for assistance. Ensure that the participants have a smooth transition into program.
  • Document any pertinent information in participant files.
  • Perform room checks for health and safety and monitor facility grounds to ensure the safety of participants. Conduct security checks throughout shift on an hourly basis.
  • Assist participants with minor problems and answer routine questions.
  • Assist in implementing and supporting participants with individualized case plan goals.
  • Monitor on-site participant's observance of program rules. Document rule violations and write incident reports when applicable.
  • De-escalate crisis and respond to crisis situations in a calm manner.
  • Comprehend and adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality laws.
  • Respond to and assist other providers in delivering services to our participants.
  • Make appropriate referrals to participants calling for assistance or for participants enrolled in program.
  • Supervise daily meals served in the kitchen and assist in other kitchen duties as needed. Facilitate CACFP Guidelines as directed and trained.
  • Prepare monthly reports as directed.
  • Attend trainings and meetings as directed.
  • Establish and maintain positive relations with the general public, funding agency, participants and other staff.
  • Ensures compliance with all Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada and Next Move policies, CARF standards, and safety and security regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have basic interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain order, resolve conflict and perform crisis intervention when needed
  • Understand basic housekeeping and facility standards
  • Must work effectively with staff, participants and the public
  • Ability to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays
  • Experience using basic computer, peripheral equipment and Microsoft Office software
  • Must not present a direct threat to the safety and health of self, others or property.
  • No record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.
  • Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.
  • Must be required to pass a drug and background screening
  • Must be able to perform essential functions of this job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher, and proof of valid automobile insurance is required at the time of appointment. This position requires the ability to operate a motorized vehicle for the purposes of conducting agency business.

Preferred Qualifications of the Role:

  • High School diploma or GED with one (1) year of experience working effectively with the public in a community setting; or AA degree or other degree with emphasis in social science or closely related field; or any combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the knowledge and ability to complete the duties outlined above.
  • Bi-Lingual-Multi-Cultural knowledge is desirable.

  • This is a Full-Time position

  • Work is performed in all kinds of conditions inside and outside the facility
  • Limited hazards due to lifting, pulling and pushing by self or others

  • Work environment usually hectic (fast paced) with frequent short deadlines and regular instances of critical or unusual situations.
