- CLINICAL OPERATIONS- Leads and supervises the daily clinical operational activities of the unit to ensure that quality care is delivered efficiently to include: • Managing patient flow • Overseeing the delivery of patient care and coordinating transports and responding to unforeseen events adjusting patient assignments, as needed. • Effectively problem solves to maximize resources to maintain patient flow, quality patient care and open communication between healthcare team members/departments • Ensures patient assignments are made as defined by the Nebraska State Nurse Practice Act, and according to the knowledge and skills of the staff available. • Ensures staffing conditions are appropriate and are accurate in scheduling system • Works collaboratively with Hours Supervisor and other unit leaders in meeting staffing challenges, taking accountability for impact of staffing decisions in own unit. • Ensures that staff has the supplies, equipment, information, and resources needed to provide quality patient care in a safe work environment. • Provides effective training on skills and changes within the industry to new and current employees • Remains current on skills and training. Serve as a clinical expert. • Plays integral role in planning for current and future nursing needs and resources
- PEOPLE LEADERSHIP- Supervises nursing, APP, and paramedic staff as assigned, including, but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, schedules, disciplinary action, performance evaluation (introductory and annual), orientation, and development. This includes day to day performance through ongoing assessment and coaching to achieve goals. • Supports retention of staff using professional techniques consistent with Children's philosophy. Evaluates candidates for selection and provide feedback to manager using targeted selection processes. Oversees the on-boarding process for new employees. • Meets with new staff and preceptors bi-weekly to assess and coach for progress and to manage variables influencing progress (patient assignments, didactic access, etc). Responsible for gathering and delivering feedback on a regular basis. Ensures educational and competency requirements are met. • Supports leadership team in development of staff members by providing substantive feedback. Collaborates with leadership team when performance issues require formal performance improvement counseling. Delivers performance feedback. Knows strengths and capabilities of each staff member and the implications for training needs, scheduling. • Recognizes and rewards staff with public and private recognition. Provides in the moment coaching, direction, and leadership for staff as necessary. • Role models' clinical practices to meet identified standards. Escalates issues beyond own decision-making authority to department manager for guidance and/or resolution. • Works collaboratively with the leadership team and staff members in assuring a patient/family focused environment. Evaluates care, provides clinical problem solving, and ensures customer satisfaction. Ensures department activities and records are in adherence to Children's Hospital & Medical Center and other regulatory agency standards.

Completes rounding and uses findings to develop solutions to identified issues within scope of accountability. • Represents needs and interests of direct reports to all levels of the leadership structure. - QUALITY, COMPLIANCE, and SAFETY- Supports the delivery of quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established patient care and regulatory standards. Interprets policies and procedure to nursing staff and patients/families. • Makes changes in clinical assignments based on patient care needs and demonstrated staff competencies. • Promotes a safe, therapeutic, customer-friendly environment. Responds promptly to patient, family and staff concerns seeking to bring issues to resolution. Provides feedback to patient care team regarding issues. • Demonstrates clinical knowledge needed to coach staff on day-to-day activities. Pursues continuous learning to gain additional knowledge in area of clinical specialty. • Interacts effectively with members of the health care team to monitor and achieve quality patient outcomes. • Exercises problem solving skills to optimize patient flow while maintaining quality patient care. Collaborates with healthcare team regarding bed management to ensure appropriate patient placement based on clinical needs. • Implements area specific policies and practice guidelines in accordance with Children's policy and regulatory standards using standardized tools and instruments. • Holds self and others accountable for behaviors that are drivers of quality improvement. Completes audits of practice as defined by unit/organizational quality plan. • Identifies, facilitates, and participates in Quality Improvement projects that enhance patient care, organizational outcomes, and/or patient satisfaction. • Supports development and implementation of protocols for practice based on evidence • Educates staff and monitors compliance of staff in cohort; elevates non-compliance issues. • Collects data on trials for new products and provides in the moment education on new product implementation.
- BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS and SERVICE- Builds, maintains and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment. • Manages conflict within scope of responsibility. Identify service recovery strategies that preserve individual dignity. Knows and is articulate about area performance against service standards. Holds others accountable for behaviors that drive service improvement and excellence. • Utilizes the problem solving model to independently and innovatively resolve patient problems and follows through to implement solutions. • Monitors service behaviors of cohort, coaching for consistency amongst all staff. Responds to and manages customer service issues that arise in day to day work. Rounds on patients and families daily. Proactively intervenes to address and/or prevent customer service issues. Brings to leadership identification of policy issues that impact customer service. • Assists to complete investigation of variance reports or other customer service issues at the direction of the manager. Identifies customer service issues other departments may have that affect safe, accurate, timely provision of patient care and efficient use of human and other resources. • Supports unit Area Action Council by attending team meeting regularly. Supports other Clinical Supervisors in work they are trying to accomplish.

Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree if position filled by a Registered Nurse- from an accredited college or university in nursing (BSN) Required or
- Bachelor's Degree if position filled by a Paramedic- from an accredited college or university in Emergency Medical Services or related health care field Required or
- Master's Degree if position filled by an Advanced Practice Provider, education as required by Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division as represented by APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska. Required
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience Required and
- Previous supervisory or lead experience Preferred
- Previous transport experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.
- Must be able to work in an environment which includes the use of ambulance, helicopter, and airplane patient transport vehicles that results in exposure to non-conventional motions, noise, vibration, fumes and extreme heat/cold.
- Must be able to perform multiple physical activities at the same time (i.e., carrying equipment while pushing a cot or incubator)
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current and valid Nebraska RN license/RN Compact license Upon Hire Required or
- LP - Licensed Paramedic Upon Hire Required or
- CPNP-AC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care current and valid nationally recognized pediatric board certification if position filled by Nurse Practitioner. Upon Hire Required or
- NNP - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Upon Hire Required and
- Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Current and valid certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 180 Days Required and
- ACLS Current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required (ED and CCU only) within 180 Days Required and
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Current and valid certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) required (NICU only). within 180 Days Required and
- Specialty Transport Certification required within 2 years of hire. (CFRN, CTRN, C-NPT). Required and
- Must have valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record Upon Hire Required and
- Due to the aircraft the Organization utilizes for both rotary and fixed wing, all Transport applicants must be 225 lbs or under at time of hire. Upon Hire Required and
- Compliance with mandatory drug testing Required
- Pediatric Advanced Transport Course (PATC) required within 2 years of hire Required or
- TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course Must obtain prior to PATC. Renewal is not required once PATC is obtained. within 1 Year Required or
- ATCN - Advanced Trauma Care Nurse within 1 Year Required
- ATLS - Advanced Trauma Life Support within 1 Year Required
