Position Summary
The Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor provides direct supervision for MFT interns and staff as well as evaluates the psychosocial, emotional and adjustment needs of patients in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center and Outpatient Therapy relative to the patient's disease conditions and impairments. Provides supportive therapy and counseling as indicated to assist patients, families, and significant others in their adjustment to the physical, psychosocial and emotional changes secondary to the patient's medical condition(s). Effectively collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support the patient's rehabilitation program and transition to the next level of care. Documents assessments and interventions according to policy and consistent with professional standards of the discipline and regulatory requirements. Directs the family therapy program and conducts program development. Provides education to patients, families and members of the interdisciplinary team including students and residents.
Responsibilities
Provides direct psychological services to patients of the Rehabilitation Center and their family members consistent with professional practice of the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist including consultation, assessment, and therapy. Documents services provided in the electronic health record (EHR).
Provides direct supervision to MFT staff and interns ensuring clinical skills are adequate to meet the needs of patient population served. Manages employee and intern assignments, leave requests and staff/student competencies to meet the program needs. Evaluates employee performance in relation to program needs, performance goals, productivity, and time management.
Maintains an outpatient practice, providing follow-up psychological services to patients referred from the Rehabilitation follow-up clinics.
Consults with physicians and members of the interdisciplinary team as needed: Attends and participates in the interdisciplinary team conferences and provides updates on patient status. Participates in discharge planning and provides patient and family education.
Provides direct supervision and consultation to the Masters and Pre-Doctoral Family Therapy interns and ensures co-signatures on their documentation in the EHR.
Appraises the performance of all interns, and MFT employees, in accordance with the policies of the ECU Health.
Provides quarterly evaluations of the interns for their educational programs.
Develops and utilizes tools for evaluating the Masters and Pre-doctoral internships at ECU Health.
Manages all logistics associated with the Family Therapy internships. Communicates with the educational programs where the students are enrolled.
Manages applications and interviews for the internship applicants.
Maintains appropriate documentation for referrals received.
Evaluates the effectiveness of psychological/family therapy services as well as evaluating and supervising the documentation of patient care in the Rehabilitation program at ECU Health.
Responsible for orientation of all interns and MFT staff while ensuring regulatory requirements are met.
Utilizes feedback from program and internship evaluations to develop additional patient programming.
Provides training and education through formal in-services and informal conversations concerning psychotherapeutic and family therapy services and the management of symptoms/dynamics to attending physicians, resident physicians, medical students, allied health professionals, and interns.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations and communication.
Conforms to the standard operating procedures established for the rehabilitation programs, Rehabilitation Services, ECU Health Medical Center, and ECU Health. Attends and participates in all mandatory and/or appropriate meetings within or outside of the department. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Shows evidence of continued professional growth. Participates in performance improvement activities and outcomes management at the level of individual, discipline, and program.
Assists Program Manager by providing input and information for budgeting, strategic planning, marketing, and program development.
Assume other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Master's Degree from an accredited Marriage and Family Therapy Program required.
Licensed or eligible as Marriage and Family Therapist in NC is required.
Preferred AAMFT supervisor.
Ph.D. in Family Therapy with Medical Family Therapy preferred. Will consider applicants with course requirements for a Ph.D. completed, with only the dissertation yet to be completed.
One year experience working in a medical setting with preference given to experience in an inpatient physical medicine program.
