Identify the training needs of the T&D Operations Department and direct the development, implementation, and maintenance of training programs for new and existing System Operations (SOs), Power System Dispatchers (PSDs), T&D Operations

Supervisors and Manager. Establish and direct the training and maintenance of a pool of qualified individuals for use in future System Operation positions. Establish and direct the T&D Operations training program so that it meets or exceeds the standards established to enable SOs/PSDs to achieve and maintain the required NERC and PJM certifications. Ensure that PPL training meets or exceeds readiness standards directed by NERC. Serve as a technical resource for other departments on topics related to T&D Operations. Direct the creation of new training programs to meet changing departmental responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

1. Direct and coordinate the development, preparation, and delivery of training courses for new and existing T&D Operations personnel. Ensure internal compliance with FERC, NERC, PJM and PPL requirements. Monitor training methods and requirements at peer utilities to ensure use of best practices.

2. Establish a pool of potential System Operator candidates to ensure adequate staffing of the department. Direct and coordinate the development, preparation and delivery of Initial Operator Training programs as required to support this goal.

3. Obtain NERC accreditation for PPL training courses, where applicable, to ensure Operators receive the mandatory Credit Equivalent Hours (CEHs) of annual training. Represent PPL as a Peer Review Expert in the NERC CEH approval process.

4. Direct the development and delivery of Dispatcher Training Simulator scenarios. Plan and execute individually tailored training sessions using the simulator to maintain PJM/NERC certification skill levels for all T&D Operations System Operators and Power System Dispatchers.

5. Responsible for creating and maintaining T&D Operations Operating Instructions that keeps the Permit & Tag system compliant with OSHA and PPL Safety rules. Provide Subject Matter Expert input to Power System Incident (PSI) or Lesson Learned Investigations where operations personnel are directly involved.

6. Represent PPL on the PJM Dispatcher Training Task Force (DTTF).

7. Direct the design, development and implementation of the annual SO/ PD training seminar

8. Coordinate PPLEU participation in drills of PJM Emergency Procedures and System Restoration plans.

9. Author or revise department Operating Instructions relating to overall operating philosophies, strategies and report writing. Coordinate and utilize input from Regional Supervisors and T&D Operations Manager to develop and present these strategies. Provide ongoing technical support, as a Subject Matter Expert, for SOs, PSDs and Supervisors T&D. (i.e. daily inquires, problem research, system review).

10. Administer training group Provide time accounting approval, approve expense accounts, complete employee appraisals, and provide budget information to Manager, T&D Operations.

11. Administer the initial training and testing required prior to sending PPL operators to attend the PJM Initial Training Program (ITP).

12. Develop or acquire industry standard training materials.

13. Direct the design, development, and implementation of training programs for new tools or applications made available to T&D Operations.

14. Direct the design, development, and implementation of training programs relevant to T&D Operations, for audiences beyond PPLEU as required.

15. Provide a department interface point to arrange Transmission Control Center tours and informational sessions to public groups, other utilities, foreign visitors, government agencies, PAPUC, and other PPL departments.

16. If applicable, in-person supervision of employees to ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour issues as well as to monitor compliance with safety rules.

17. All positions in which driving is an essential function of the job, regardless if the job code is marked safety sensitive or not, will also be included as safety sensitive.

18. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

19. The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelors in a technical field or a bachelors in business/Liberal Arts with a Minor in computers / IT.

2. Eight years of experience in Transmission and Distribution Operations. 3 years of this must be as a Power System Dispatcher, System Operator/Trainer or equivalent.

3. Valid Drivers License.
