General Description: The Surface Grind Operator is responsible for grinding rare earth magnet material to specified dimensions according to customer specifications. This role involves setting up and operating machinery, maintaining equipment, interpreting customer drawings, and ensuring quality standards are met. Major Functions: 1. Optimize Safety/Minimize Risk: A. Wear required PPE. B. Adhere to required safety precautions. 2. Read, Understand, and Follow Work Instructions (WI) and Process Control Standards (PCS): A. Access Paradigm to review and/or print WI or PCS. B. Recommend revisions and updates to WI and PCS. 3. Interpret Customer Drawings: A. Verify the drawing part number matches the manufacturing router. B. Review the drawing to obtain specified dimensions, features, tolerances, and customer requirements. 4. Set Up Machinery: A. Set up machine as required to perform the operation. B. Install proper tooling. C. Select the proper program, if applicable. D. Select proper measuring equipment available (e.g., optical comparator, micrometer, gauges, dial indicator, height indicator). E. Obtain a first piece inspection before running a job. 5. Maintain Machinery: A. Clean and organize machinery and work area. B. Fill the coolant and oil the machine daily or whenever the swarf approaches the top of the first chamber of the coolant tanks, or every 6 weeks. C. Change grinding wheel when needed. D. Perform required preventative maintenance. E. Request reorders of consumables as needed. 6. Operate Machinery: A. Surface grinders. B. Chamfering and edge break equipment. C. Tumble cleaning equipment. D. Meet established quality standards and production rates. 7. Grind Cycles: A. Anticipate long grind cycles and assume peripheral work. 8. Verify and Accurately Record Data: A. Enter data into ERP Computer System and manufacturing router as required by work instructions. 9. Perform In-Process Inspection: A. Conduct inspections as required. 10. Adhere to EEC Escalation Policy: A. Follow the escalation procedures as outlined by the company. Accountability of Employees: A. Use your best efforts and full capability to achieve assigned outputs. B. Inform your manager in time for adaptive action when circumstances make it likely that outputs cannot be achieved or more could be done. C. Advise your manager on helpful ideas. D. Seek special dispensation from your manager when unable to work at your best.
