Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the surgery attendant performs tasks assisting and facilitating efficient patient flow and safe patient care in the unit.

Located just minutes from the shores of Padre Island, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-South provides surgical and medical services for our patients in south Corpus Christi. Perfectly positioned to serve the rapidly-growing south side of Corpus Christi, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - South is licensed for 158 beds. South offers a full range of medical and surgical services including pediatrics, obstetrics, skilled nursing, emergency, intensive care as well as advanced diagnostic and imaging. The hospital is also home to a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which enables recovering mothers to remain close to their premature or special needs babies.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. • Transports patients and equipment using appropriate standard precautions. • Cleans and makes ready beds, stretchers and wheelchairs for patient transfer. • Presents self to other staff, patients, families and visitors in a warm, receptive manner. Provides direction and information to patients and family members. Identifies and obtains language translation as needed. • Assists with surgical patient positioning, transfer, cast application and removal under the direction of the RN. • Retrieves and delivers items to other departments. Responds promptly to assignments and requests. • Assists nursing staff in maintaining high standards of nursing practice by facilitating a prompt response to patient needs. • Restocks supplies, cleans/defrosts refrigerators, cleans equipment and maintains orderly environment. • Assures patient transfer and transport equipment is functioning properly. • Functions as a surgical team member. • Demonstrates competence to perform assigned responsibilities is a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of the members served by the department. • Appropriately adapts assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each member served.

Requirements:

A. Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

B. Experience

  • 1 year of experience in a hospital setting preferred

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • BLS required
