JOB SUMMARY
Performs scrub nurse duties for surgical cases and assists registered nurse in caring for the surgical patient. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills of aseptic techniques. Must demonstrate knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being served.
Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from a Surgical Technology program accredited by the committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or another avenue of entry, or Equivalent combination of education and 20 (twenty) years of experience as a Hamilton OR Tech/Surgical Technologist.
Licensure: Certified Surgical Technologist preferred, Or a graduate from a Surgical Technology program with a written contract agreement of passing the Certification test with six months of hire, Or 20 (twenty) years of experience as a Hamilton OR Tech/Surgical Technologist required. CPR required.
Experience: 0-3 years experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist
Skills: Manual dexterity to handle multitude of OR instruments. Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients needs that are age appropriate. Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for age group of patient served.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in surgical suite under aseptic conditions and cool temperatures. Exposure to hazards found in surgical areas. Requires ability to work flexible schedule. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions with ability to adapt to rapid turnover of patient census.
