Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Surgical Technician is charged with and responsible for:1. Utilizes 2 patient identifiers during all patient contact.2. Maintains aseptic technique while scrubbing for operative cases and opening delivery tables.3. Actively participates during the site verification process (timeout), for operative cases.4. Provides assistant to the interdisciplinary team and patients during and after deliveries.5. Ensures that instruments, needles, sharps and laparotomy pads are accounted for during and at the end of cases, including vaginal deliveries.6. Follows infection control guidelines in handling soiled equipment and instruments.7. Labels solutions and medications (in collaboration with the circulating nurse), on the sterile field. 8. Maintains established par level of instruments and supplies in triage, labor and delivery rooms (LDR), operating rooms and recovery room.9. Ensures that patient care supplies are not expired. 10. Assists the professional nurse in rendering care to patients, including vital signs, activities of daily living, perineal care, intake and output, etc.11. Assists patients and providers during pelvic examination of patients in triage/labor rooms.12. Assists in the transporting of patients within the service including the ultrasound unit, as necessary.13. Performs duties of a Nurse Aide when so assigned.14. Notifies charge nurse of hazardous conditions or situations that may cause harm to patients or staff.15. Rotates to other MCH units when needed.16. Participates in departmental performance improvement and TJC activities.17. Provides age appropriate care to newborn, infant, toddler, pre-schooler, school-age, adolescent, young and middle age adults within the WCHS units.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:1- Knowledge and competency in aseptic technique2- Infection control guidelines3- Customer service4- TeamStepps5- National Patient Safety GoalsMinimum QualificationsFor Appointment to Level II1. Hold and maintain a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.Note: Effective January 1, 2015, all newly hired incumbents to the title of Surgical Technologist must hold and maintain a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential and be assigned at Level II.
