Job Title: Surveillance OperatorDepartment: Tribal Gaming Commission (TGC) SurveillanceReports To: Surveillance SupervisorLocation: Gaming Commission OfficesStatus: Non-Exempt (NE-9)/Full TimeOpen Date: September 20, 2024Close Date: Open until filledSUMMARYThe Surveillance Operator will assist in providing and maintaining a proactive surveillance operation that protects the assets of Gun Lake Casino. The Surveillance Operator will perform all responsibilities in accordance with Gun Lake Tribal Gaming Commission standards, policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- High school Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of one year of gaming experience
- NOTE: GLT Tribal Citizens with minimal or no experience may be eligible for the Surveillance OJT (on-the-job) Program. A one-year, three-phase program teaches the dynamics of being a Surveillance Operator, allowing the Citizen to earn wages while gaining valuable experience
- Pass minimum competency test
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
- Operate all casino surveillance equipment, including keyboards and recording devices and all related equipment needed to monitor, preserve or establish gaming-related activities through covert operations and surveillance
- Familiarity with the operation of all casino departments and gaming areas
- Knowledge of all live games including rules, cheating techniques and game protection for casino games such as Blackjack, Dice, Roulette, Baccarat, Let It Ride, Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Crazy 4 Poker, Mississippi Stud Poker, Slots, Poker, Keno and Bingo
- Become familiar with gaming ordinances, regulations and compacts, the approved Internal Control System, department policies and procedures and have working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws
- Develop the ability to monitor and audit other departments in accordance with policies and procedures
- Conduct routine random surveillance and special observations as approved by surveillance management
- Conduct surveillance reviews and audits to confirm transactions or events
- Responsible for practicing, supporting and promoting GLTGC professionalism, ethics and standards at all times
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Previous experience in casino surveillance
- Post-high school courses, degree or experience in business administration, criminal justice or related field
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests, casino employees, Gaming Commission staff and casino management in both written and verbal form, including report writing
- Have a professional and investigative attitude
- Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to the operations, controls and procedures involved in surveillance activities and all Gaming Commission records
- Ability to react quickly and accurately under demanding, stressful conditions
- Knowledge and advanced ability to use computers and digital recording equipment
- Must be reliable, trustworthy and honest
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain favorable working relationships
Physical Requirements
- Work is generally sedentary in nature and will frequently require sitting, however standing and walking will occasionally be necessary
- Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to talk and hear
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Pass a background investigation, which includes: personal history, criminal history, driving record, credit rating and employment references, and satisfy suitability standards established by the Gun Lake Tribal Government and the Tribal Gaming Commission
- Adhere to the Commission policy prohibiting an employee from gambling or playing any licensed game or gaming device within Gun Lake Tribal Lands
- Work is essentially conducted in a standard office setting but may require travel and periodic high concentrations of noise and second-hand tobacco smoke associated with casino settings
- Ability and willingness to travel, locally and out of state, for program requirements, meetings and continuing education
- May require non-traditional work hours that vary from week to week including working evenings, weekends and holidays as required to meet position deadlines and requirements; including the ability to respond immediately in the event of a system malfunction
