The City of Virginia Beach is hiring for the position of
Survey Aide I, II, or III, depending on experience. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in supporting our engineering survey party with system record keeping, field verification, and a range of survey tasks. The Survey Aide duties include:
- Perform various tasks as a member of an engineering survey party involved in system horizontal and vertical database management, field verifications, and all types of basic survey work and office data gathering.
- Assist in land surveying by holding grade rods and giving sights on fixed points using plum bob and front or rear chaining to determine elevation, property lines, and distances.
- Perform manual tasks such as digging, cutting brush, driving hubs, and guard stakes to locate or mark property boundaries.
- Double-check calculations to ensure accurate field notes.
- Operation of all types of electronic survey equipment with accuracy and repeatability to obtain data relating to property lines, angles, and elevations.
- Work regularly in the street or right-of-way in the City to gather field information.
- Record field data accurately and in the proper format in electronic data collectors, field books, and/or field data sheets to provide to engineers and drafting technicians.
- Must be able to physically handle/carry the field equipment weighing up to 150 pounds.
- If selected at the Survey Aide III level, the incumbent may direct the survey party in the absence of the Survey Party Supervisor.
- Perform other job duties as needed
