Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Party Chief to lead and oversee hydrographic survey operations in small boat/shallow water environments. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of hydrographic survey methods, equipment, and procedures, with a focus on ensuring high-quality data collection in challenging environments. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage field teams effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead hydrographic survey projects focused on small boat and shallow water operations.
- Oversee the mobilization, calibration, and operation of survey equipment, including multibeam echosounders (MBES), single beam echosounders (SBES), side scan sonar (SSS), and GNSS positioning systems.
- Plan and execute data acquisition strategies, ensuring optimal survey coverage and data quality.
- Manage survey teams, providing guidance, task assignments, and ensuring adherence to project timelines.
- Conduct quality control (QC) on collected survey data, identifying and resolving any issues related to data accuracy or equipment performance.
- Liaise with project managers, clients, and on-site stakeholders to ensure project goals are understood and met.
- Prepare detailed daily progress reports and final survey reports, including data interpretation and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during all field operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any equipment issues in the field, ensuring minimal downtime.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in hydrographic surveying, with at least 3 years in a Party Chief role.
- Extensive knowledge of hydrographic survey techniques and equipment, particularly in shallow water environments.
- Experience with small boat operations and working in coastal, riverine, or lake environments.
- Proficiency in using hydrographic survey software (e.g., Hypack, QINSy, or similar).
- Strong understanding of geodetic principles, coordinate systems, and datum transformations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and technical issues in the field.
- Valid offshore safety certifications (e.g., HUET/BOSIET) and medical clearance.
- Willingness to work in various offshore locations and extended field rotations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of environmental conditions and regulations impacting shallow water survey operations.
- Familiarity with LIDAR bathymetry or UAV-based survey techniques.
- Previous experience working with governmental or research agencies on shallow water survey projects.
