The incumbent is experienced and has proficiency and broad knowledge of land surveying field work, data collection, Survey and CADD standards and practices, DPOR rules and regulations, local ordinances and processes as they pertain to the practice of land surveying, survey services, products and deliverables. The employee understands, abides, enforces, promotes, and innovates on the Standard Operating Procedures, Core Values and Principles of the Survey Department and the Company. They are also called on to assist the Survey Department Head with management, education and administrative duties of the department.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Verifies the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations taken at surveying sites
  • Directs or conducts surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties based on legal deeds and titles.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
  • Coordinates findings with the work of the engineering and architectural personnel, clients and others concerned with the projects
  • Trains assistants and helpers and directs their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps
  • Analyzes survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparation
  • Computes geodetic measurements and interprets survey data to determine positions, shapes and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features
  • Develops criteria for survey methods and procedures
  • Conducts research in surveying and mapping methods using knowledge of techniques of photogrammetric map compilation and electronic data processing

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and other discipline specific software; uses software effectively to complete work efficiently and accurately
  • Has appropriate level of knowledge of office and survey equipment
Physical Requirements:
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and climb or balance
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions
  • The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate
Education and Experience:
  • High school degree or the equivalent
  • Professional license in Virginia for the discipline represented
  • Valid Virginia driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
  • Progressive experience as a survey instrument person, survey crew chief and related experience and/or training
