Position Summary: JMT is currently seeking a Surveying Technician I - Rodman/Instrument Operator for their Knoxville, Tennessee Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the survey party crew chief with completing survey tasks and implementing proper surveying techniques in the field, the set-up and operation of survey equipment to collect data and to provide any needed support for the field survey party. This candidate will also assist boundary, topographic, as-built, and construction staking.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

+ Set-up the tripod and prism for data collection

+ Label topographic features from field codes

+ Perform calculations

+ Conduct field investigations

+ Document tasks

+ Complete data entry

+ Assist Survey/SUE crew with handling and operation of survey and SUE equipment

+ Perform other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 95% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Work is subject to variable weather conditions including but not limited to extreme heat and cold.

Travel

Travel expectations for field work could include projects in middle Tennessee, as well as away from home requiring overnight stays which could be 4 nights per week as required for distant projects. Three-day weekends would follow. Projects could be located in any part of Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia or the Carolinas.
