Job Description:

Survey Technician III functions as a survey lead worker. This position is responsible for gathering and distributing pertinent field control and design information required for road construction (infrastructure) projects, right of way plats, Public Land Survey System government land corner maintenance program, parks, trails and easements. Communicate project needs and requirements with County Surveyor, Supervisor, Engineers, Inspectors, highway contractors, landowners and other agencies. Office duties include creating government land corner location reference sheets, aid in road design plans, analyze and review right of way plats using computer aid drafting (AutoCAD) software. Equipment Operation of state of the art Global Navigation Satellite System equipment and data collector.

This position is based out of the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River, MN. Providing horizontal and vertical control for county road construction projects including underground utilities, curb and gutter, catch basins, manholes, super elevated curves, roadways, etc. Coordinate with supervisor on project needs and timelines. Verify infrastructure placement, elevations per design plans, and field data for design estimates.

Execute and quality control the data collection of topographic surveys which include existing physical features, structures and contour reliefs within a specified corridor or segment of county or county state aid highway, bridges, ditch system, easement, or property of interest. Communicate instructions to team personnel, reviewing inconsistencies, project timelines, requirements with supervisor. Setup, maintain and troubleshoot surveying equipment and software. Provide visual and material inspection services during road construction when needed.

Conduct Highway Right of Way boundary survey field work, data capture of located monuments, and place at Right of Way plat boundary limits. Operate GPS receivers, software and data collectors. Provide reference ties on Government Land Office section corners within the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). Contact and communicate with landowners for access across private property.

Review Right of Way Plats for County Surveyor.

Research county information relative to assigned projects.An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for this position.

Associate's Degree or Two-Year post secondary education in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering; AND

Three years work experience in land surveying and engineering with CADD and GNSS.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

A valid MN Driver's License is required.

Obtaining MNDOT certifications will include:

* Aggregate production

* Grading Base I and II

* Bituminous Street
