Location: all cities,NC, USA
The purpose of this position is to perform technical and semi-skilled surveying duties to assist the Engineering Department with capital projects and to assist other departments, as needed. This is accomplished by operating an electronic total station, level, data collector, GPS unit, and other survey equipment, overseeing survey workers, setting benchmarks, cutting line, setting stakes, and adjusting and cleaning tools, as needed. Other duties include filing maps and field books, and keeping work vehicle clean and stocked with supplies.
* Operates and maintains surveying instruments by transporting and operating survey instruments, data collectors, and other technical equipment, and cleaning and calibrating equipment.
* Performs horizontal and topographic land surveying activities by using surveying instruments, cutting line, removing and replacing manhole and catch basin covers and grates to measure utility depth, and clearing construction sites with hand tools to accurately survey and stake various projects.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Minimum one year of surveying experience
Other Requirements:
* Class C Driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Proficiency using equipment, data collectors, and survey related software.
* Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a survey crew.
* Ability to read deed descriptions, survey plats, engineering drawings.
* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry and geometry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position generally requires outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
