Position Purpose
We are currently looking to fill our Survey Technician position. If you are looking for a career, this is a great opportunity for growth and advancement with the ability to grow to a Senior Survey Technician.
Perform the required technical tasks associated with a land survey crew under close supervision and guidance. Setup and operate a total station, lidar scanner, GPS equipment, data collectors, automatic and digital levels, and drones to measure geodetic positions, horizontal, and vertical distances. Download and edit preliminary field data, drawings and maps using AutoCAD, GPS and lidar scanning software. Capable of interpreting basic engineering design plans to for routine layout and stationing for engineering projects. Assist in ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of projects. Submits completed work to senior survey staff for review of accuracy and completeness.

Essential Functions / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Under close supervision and guidance, assists with or performs the following required technical tasks in both the field and office:
* Operates survey equipment including total station, robotic total station, lidar scanner, GPS base and rover, data collector, automatic and digital level, and drones.
* Conducts preliminary topographical surveys to provide accurate information for project planning and design.
* Completes utility surveys for the mapping of above and underground wet and dry utilities.
* Conducts boundary retracement and Right of Way surveys are used in the development of plans and plats.
* Locates field traverses and monumentation for boundary locations using conventional methods and/or GPS.
* Sets Right of Way and property monuments, rehabilitate and upgrade aliquot monuments.
* Prepares land survey monument records.
* Prepare legal descriptions, plans and exhibits for the acquisition of Right of Way, parcels, and easements.
* Conducts routine construction staking and layout of stationing.
* Interprets basic design plans and construction drawings provided by project engineers for layout of projects.
* Completes preliminary mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic civil engineering.
* Conducts vertical controls for benchmarks, flood plains, surveys, and construction projects.
* Downloads and edits preliminary survey data and provides drawings to geo-data services and project engineers.
* Utilizes AutoCAD and GPS software to prepare data for routine stake out on construction projects.
* Research city benchmarks, section corner monuments, plats, and property records.
* Maintains city field book and computerized survey records along with other required record keeping.
* Inventories and maintains survey supplies stock, equipment, and vehicles.
* Follows proper safety procedures and always ensures safety of themselves and others.
* Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Basic knowledge of surveying procedures and methods.
* Basic knowledge and skills using AutoCAD.
* Basic knowledge of the National Spatial Reference System, State Plane Coordinates, scale factors and project coordinate systems.
* Skilled at working as part of a survey crew gathering preliminary survey data.
* Skilled at downloading, editing, and processing preliminary survey data.
* Ability to interpret basic engineering design plans to provide routine layout and stationing for engineering projects.
* Ability to provide work to senior survey staff for review of accuracy, completeness and to accept feedback in a positive manner.
* Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
* Ability to maintain a professional working atmosphere in a close work environment.
* Basic knowledge or coursework in land surveying, geomatics or engineering that includes algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
* Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
Receives direct supervision from the survey crew chief. Performs work and daily priorities established by the survey crew chief. Receives survey supervision and guidance from the senior surveyor, survey crew chief, and chief surveyor. Defined procedures cover most duties. Expected to deal with different and specialized situations.
Financial Accountability:
Makes approved purchases up to $2000.00.
Qualifications - Working Environment / Minimum Qualifications
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
The work environment/physical activities described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
Work is performed in both the field (outdoors) and office (indoors) environments with low to high noise levels. Physical effort and activities include: moderate physical work. Able to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time. Occasional lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 100 pounds and up to 30 pounds frequently. Exposure to adverse weather conditions, exposure to atmospheric conditions that can affect the skin and/or respiratory system, high vehicle traffic, automobile fumes and dust, noise and dangers of working around construction sites.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE):
High school diploma or GED equivalent plus one (1) year of field and office land surveying experience with basic coursework in land surveying, geomatics or engineering that includes algebra, geometry and trigonometry. A valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of field and office land surveying experience. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, GPS, drones and lidar survey equipment and software.
