Survey Technician

Full Time: Abilene Office

Jacob & Martin, LLC is seeking a Survey Technician. We are looking for a talented & motivated professional who wants to be part of a growing, dynamic team that is focused on making a positive impact on projects in the public and private sector.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable violation history
  • Must pass drug test and background check
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Surveying experience and/or technical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact/communicate well with senior management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Surveying experience
  • Construction field experience
  • Strong math skills
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Some college or Associates degree; especially in surveying or related fields

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules and practices and adhere to safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management
  • Researching, reading and plotting deeds, subdivisions and easements
  • Processing, reducing and checking field data (GPS, robotic TS data, and digital leveling data)
  • Writing preliminary legal description and easements
  • Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client and contractor's representatives and others as applicable regarding the construction site and survey requirements
  • Work on field crew, as needed
  • Accomplish goals on projects within established budgets and timelines
  • Some overnight travel may be required

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Post high school technical coursework

Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; and lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.

Work Environment:

While performing this job, the employee regularly works in both indoor and outdoor and is required to work in all types of weather conditions. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around vehicle traffic, construction equipment, survey vehicles, “sharp” objects (i.e. barbed wire fences) and vegetation (i.e. cactus, etc.), and dangerous animals (bees, wasps, snakes, etc.) Employees will be required to use protective clothing or gear (such as hard hats, reflective vests, boots, gloves, bug repellant, and sunscreen) under appropriate circumstances.
