JOB OPENINGCITY OF FARMINGTONJOB POSITION #216 - SURVEYOR AIDENUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1 DEPARTMENT: Community Works/SurveyWORK LOCATION: Annex TYPE OF POSITION: Regular/Full-Time PAY GRADE: G PAY RANGE: $17.2120 - $26.8026/ HourlyDAYS WORKED: Monday-Friday HOURS WORKED: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.APPLICATIONS WILL BE RECEIVED: Until FilledJOB DUTIESESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSWorks under the direction of a Lead Survey Chief.Performs mathematical calculations and reads construction prints. Can read Plan and Profile drawings.Assists in locating property corners, section corners, rights-of-way, laying out of roads, waterlines, sewer lines, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and drainage structures from Plan and Profile drawings.Takes and records field information (notes and drawings) in the field and then prepares rough drafts of said information as directed.Within one year have the ability to set up and operate level, run and download GPS data collector.Drives nails, hubs, stakes, laths, and iron pins at designated points and to specified elevations.Directs traffic.Ties flagging on nails, sharpens and paints laths and stakes.Assists in clearing vegetation and debris from survey alignments including the use of axe and machete.Keeps vehicle clean, organized, and fueled.NONESSENTIAL DUTIESPerforms drafting duties using AutoCAD as assigned.Working knowledge and ability to run and operate total station and GPS equipment.Runs errands as needed.Helps prepare and file maps, plats, and records.The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.QUALIFICATIONSThis position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.Extensive background checks required.High school diploma or equivalent required.Two years experience with survey crew, or experience and/or education sufficient to perform job duties.Efficient operation of calculator, computer, and four-wheel drive vehicle.Knowledge of mathematics, algebra, and trigonometry sufficient to perform duties of survey aide.Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, contractors, and other citizens.Ability to read blueprints, maps, plans and layout sheets, and keep legible survey notes.Physical condition to sustain walking up to five miles in one day in all types of weather conditions while bending and stooping and pounding in hubs.Ability to carry surveying equipment which weighs up to 60 pounds while walking over rough terrain.Ability to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle in all types of weather and terrain and get in and out of vehicle repeatedly throughout the day.Must have a valid state Driver's License.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
