POSITION SUMMARY:Under general supervision performs surveying office and field work/GPS data collection of moderate difficulty under the direction of a professional surveyor; performs related work as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Obtains information for engineering construction plans and propertysurveysOversees the work of and trains subordinate members of survey team as necessaryResearches courthouse records and other documents in order to prepare right of way plans and legal descriptionsInvestigates and obtains necessary data and records required to perform field and land surveysAssists in preparation of Survey Section budget requestsSets up and operates all survey instruments and equipment as needed, including any other associated field work as necessary to complete required survey operationsPrepares and maintains inventory records to assist in determining long-term needs in replacing surveying equipmentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:Surveying principles, practices and terminology.Instruments and equipment used in survey work.Microsoft Office products.CADD, COGO, GPS, and GISSkill in:Oral and written communications.Performing professional survey workReading and interpreting construction plansLegal description preparationTraining personnel.Ability to:Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients.REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:Level 1: $35.89Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering with at least 24 quarter hours or equivalent semester hours of approved surveying courses in surveying directly and mapping arts and sciences.Must possess a valid driver's license.Level 2: $37.68Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering with at least 24 quarter hours or equivalent semester hours of approved surveying courses in surveying directly and mapping arts and sciences.Must possess a valid driver's license.Three (3) years of experience in surveying activities.Level 3: $39.50Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering with at least 24 quarter hours or equivalent semester hours of approved surveying courses in surveying directly and mapping arts and sciences.Must possess a valid driver's license.Seven (7) years of experience in surveying activities.PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:Registration as a State of Ohio Surveyor-in-Training preferredPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
