Announcement Open Until FilledSalary Depending on QualificationsDept/Div: Road Department/N/A FLSA Status: ExemptGeneral Definition of WorkPerforms technical work performing a variety of surveying and civil engineering tasks for County roads, bridges, construction sites, maintenance projects, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Engineering Director or Public Works Director. Close supervision is exercised over inmate crews as assigned. Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential FunctionsPerforms the layout and staking of engineering and construction projects.Prepares data files from CAD files and project plans for use in surveying and staking operations.Operates specialized survey and construction layout equipment such as global positioning systems, total station instruments, data collectors, levels, pipe lasers, horizontal and slope lasers, prisms, chains, plum-bobs, rods, and computers. Prepares a variety of engineering drawings for construction projects using computer aided drafting (CAD) software.Collects data representing existing boundary, topography, and built environment and other features for use in project design for various County departmentsPerforms material take off (MTO) on County construction and maintenance projects; requests material bids as directed.Provides technical assistance to department crews for construction and maintenance projects; interprets various drawings, maps and plats as needed or required.Trains a variety of personnel in established work methodology as necessary.May assist with seasonal or disaster related issues from flooding and windstorms, snow removal, ice control, etc.Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of surveying and civil engineering and construction practices, procedures and techniques; thorough knowledge of land survey nomenclature and symbols; general knowledge of maps and records; ability to operate Computer Aided Design (CAD) equipment: civil engineering and surveying software programs; ability to research land records; ability to perform precise survey work and produce field notes; ability to understand and work from oral and written instructions and sketches; ability to work out of doors under varying weather conditions; skill in the use of survey instruments; skill in the use and application of software relating to engineering and surveying needs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Education and ExperienceAssociates/Technical degree with coursework in land surveying, civil engineering, or related field. Extensive experience in construction and land surveying applications, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical RequirementsThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).Special RequirementsPrerequisite for this position is successful completion of a basic skills test that meets the standard for Peace Officer Standards and Training certification - if selected for consideration you will be provided information on the skills test.Obtain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Corrections Officer certifications within six months.Registration as Professional Land Surveyor, though not required, would result in a salary adjustment Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with favorable driving history (MVR).Last Revised: 12/19/2023
