Job Description:

The County of San Luis Obispo, Public Health Department is currently seeking a skilled on-call nurse to join our Suspected Abuse Response Team (SART).

The Suspected Abuse Response Nurse is part of a multidisciplinary response team who will work with law enforcement investigators, CPS social workers and Rape Trauma Services counselors. Our SART nurses perform forensic medical exams to document injuries, collect and preserve evidence and provide post assault medications per protocol for adult and adolescent victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. They assist pediatric providers with forensic evidence collection and documentation for sexual abuse patients, complete mandated reporting requirements if necessary, and attend court proceedings if subpoenaed.

Examples Of Duties:

* Follow departmental policies, procedures and protocols.

* Maintain professional rapport with all members of the team and member of other disciplines involved in the care of the sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.

* When on call, respond to notification in a timely manner.

* Be knowledgeable of community resources.

* Ensure confidentiality of all individuals in contact with the sexual assault or domestic violence program at all times.

* Make complex decisions and communicate without judgement

This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Trained forensic nurse examiner. Experience as a forensic nurse examiner preferred but not required.

* Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.

* Experience working with diverse, underserved populations.

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:

Community Health Nurse I: Two years of professional nursing experience.

Community Health Nurse II: Either A: One year of experience as a Community Health Nurse I, OR B: Three years of professional nursing experience.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid California license as a Registered Nurse.

SART Nurses must participate in Q/A, competency reviews and mandatory trainings.
