POSITION SUMMARY

This position, under the supervision of the Sustainability and Resiliency Manager, assists with the development, evaluation and implementation of sustainability plans and programs (e.g., Environmental Leadership Action Plan, Farmland Preservation Plan, etc.). Additionally, the position provides staff and administrative support to the Environmental Stewardship Committee, manages day to day activities for programs; meets with program management/staff from assigned areas; represents the County Manager's Office in internal and external stakeholder meetings and exercises independent discretion in decision making which impacts the County's operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Serve as County representative for internal and external engagement on sustainability-focused topics including Environmental Leadership Action Plan (ELAP) and Farmland Preservation Plan

* Provide community outreach and education; interact with residents, business groups, and community groups and respond to them regarding issues, questions, problems, or improvements

* Compile reports on sustainability programs and provide feedback and suggestions on how existing programs can be improved

* Provide administrative support to committees and workgroups

* Prepare grant applications to fund environmental programs or program enhancements

* Design and implement process improvement projects and programs

* Keep up to date on current environmental best practices and legislation

* Creating, maintaining and updating respective websites

* Manage internal environmentally focused employee engagement program, known as WorkGreen. Work to create new educational materials while continuously monitoring the WorkGreen program for improvement.

* Lead enterprise-wide environmental leadership initiatives focused on efficient practices and multi-departmental teams

* Coordinate information and education resources for environmental programs with other departments, municipalities, outside agencies, groups, and businesses

* Provide support, and serve as primary contact for, County staff Green Teams. Continuously support Sustainability Knowledge Fests (SKF) for Green Team members and WorkGreen participants.

* Assist with data collection, tracking, analysis for Environmental Leadership Action Plan and publishing results

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum of four years of environmental experience.

Education: Bachelor's degree in an environmental or scientific field.

Licenses and Certifications

* Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License

* Requires County Driving Privileges Licenses and Certifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience with awareness/outreach related to sustainability activities

* Experience working or volunteering with nonprofits

* Professional experience with social media

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Current quality of life and sustainability terminology

* Ordinances and regulations pertaining to specific sustainability issues

* Grant acquisition, approval, and implementation

* Skilled in the interpretation of best methodologies of delivery of environmental messaging to technical and non-technical persons
