What You'll Do

Combating the climate crisis is a defining challenge of our time. At BCG, we recognize the urgency to reduce emissions and address the systemic threats to our environment. We have set a bold ambition to achieve net-zero climate impact by 2030, and the Global Internal Sustainability Team is leading this effort.

BCG has committed to achieving net-zero climate impact by 2030. This includes a commitment to remove our remaining footprint with the most effective nature-based and engineered solutions at an annual average of $80 per tonne by 2030 – and in the process continue support for high-quality avoided emissions solutions.

The Carbon Portfolio Manager will join BCG's Global Internal Sustainability Team and be a member of our industry-leading carbon removal team, which has and will continue to sign agreements with suppliers of high-quality carbon dioxide removal. You will develop and enhance BCG's carbon portfolio – focusing primarily on removal solutions ranging from nature-based to engineered durable removals.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the overall strategy framework for building and enhancing BCG's carbon portfolio of removal solutions.
  • Closely monitor carbon market evolutions (players, standards, policies, market conditions e.g. supply and prices) and translate them into implications and recommendations for BCG's carbon portfolio strategy and roadmap.
  • Support the evolution of BCG's carbon portfolio sourcing process.
  • Identify, prioritize, evaluate, negotiate, and structure partnerships and deals to source avoidance and removal solutions in line with BCG's net-zero goals and objectives.
  • Undertake due diligence of a variety of technologies by engaging with relevant partners and internal technical experts.
  • Support the communication of the carbon portfolio strategy internally and externally.
  • Contribute to overall net-zero strategy enhancement and continuous improvement, including planning and budgeting processes from the carbon portfolio perspective; as well as using experience and expertise to shape program evolution in line with emerging best practices.
  • In partnership with relevant internal stakeholders, identify and cultivate opportunities for leveraging portfolio partnerships into broader strategic partnerships.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities and expand skills and knowledge linked to the topics.
  • Develop and build strong working relationships with peers, suppliers, and other members of the VCM ecosystem.

YOU'RE GOOD AT

Overall key competencies include:

  • Applying strong business skills and strong business judgement - with the ability to structure and negotiate commercially sound deals.
  • Applying technical expertise to methodically assess a variety of carbon project technologies.
  • Good understanding of corporate climate action including mitigation actions and frameworks such as net-zero.
  • Problem solving, analytical skills, and decision making.
  • Strategy development, financial, and planning skills.
  • Managing uncertainty and dynamic situations.
  • Organized and able to track and manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Communication, interpersonal, and teaming skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels through establishing positive, mutually respectful, and productive working relationships.
  • Must be able to perform successfully in a fast-paced, intellectually intense, service-oriented environment.
  • Experience working successfully within a complex matrix-structured organization.

You Bring (Experience & Qualifications):

  • University degree in Environmental Management, Engineering, Business, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of relevant work experience in climate finance/voluntary carbon markets/the carbon credit value chain.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in carbon programs and/or carbon removal technologies (e.g. direct air capture) including experience evaluating quality, feasibility of solutions and their potential at scale to mitigate climate change.

You will report directly to the Senior Portfolio Manager. Primary team members include all members of the Internal Sustainability Team (Ex Director, Sr. Manager, and Analysts). Regular engagement with internal and external stakeholders as specified above.
