Job Title: Sustainability Packaging EngineerThe following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role. Location: Princeton, NJ (Hybrid) Hours: M- F 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Type: 6-month contract Overview: The individual will work on packaging engineering programs associated with meeting corporate sustainability goals, and Global Extended Producer Responsibility regulatory requirements. Responsibilities: Collation and formatting of specification data, for all primary, secondary and tertiary packaging, so materials familiarity and packaging process methods are key to understand the information requirements for completion of data fields. Work closely with external converters and technology suppliers on projects from initiation through manufacturing feasibility. Projects will consist of modifications of packaging for existing products as well as the packaging requirements for new products to ensure delivery of environmentally and sustainable formats. Sustainability compliance under EPR falls under the position, so a background of exposure to packaging legislative and regulatory changes is preferred. The individual will help build the information to allow accurate reporting of data analytics, working to bring specification data from our businesses not currently on the Agile specification system, into the system, structuring the Bill of Materials and data completeness to allow meaningful reporting though systems data review The role will require the individual to liaise with the supplier network, Global Manufacturing Services team, co-mans and Procurement, along with Strategic Business Unit Packaging Engineering teams to gather information on products manufactured globally Be a key contributor in building on domestic and global reporting for legislative, corporate and customer sustainability targets. Maintain awareness of both domestic and international legislation changes affecting materials compliance In addition to working within cross-functional teams, the individual will also work closely with quality, finance, procurement, regulatory, engineering, operations, consultants and outside vendors. Input into sustainability reports and liaison with Corporate Sustainability Stewardship for key customers and Non-Government Organizations on our sustainability scorecards. Working alongside Packaging Technicians or Packaging Engineers in the delivery of sustainability projects and qualifications. Requirements: Minimum of a BS degree in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering sciences. Minimum of 2 years of experience in package development, device or hard goods manufacturing. Experience writing of Packaging Specifications, and understanding of workflows to authorize change data within a specification system Experience in projects and project teams towards commercialization of new products. Understanding of the essentials of sustainability, and a solid background of the latest technologies in sustainability, guidelines and policies for packaging recyclability and awareness of NGO's driving industry change. Experience across an array of packaging materials / converting methods: Corrugated containers Folding cartons (solid fiberboard) Plastic bottles and injection molded components Flexible film Clear ability to organize and prioritize a number of Packaging projects Data savvy skills on understanding build of specifications High interpersonal skills to influence partner functions within project team environment Strong communication and presentation skills A self-motivated and proactive personality with ambitions to “learn and deliver” within a fast paced, “employee empowered” atmosphere. Passion for sustainability and environmental impact. High competency in Microsoft applications and general computer usage.
