JOB TITLE:Transfer Station OperatorJOB CLASS NUMBER:TRD250PAY GRADE:G06FLSA STATUS:Non-ExemptBUSINESS UNIT NAME:Solid Waste DisposalREPORTS TO:Assistant Solid Waste SuperintendentSUPERVISORY WORK:NoneSUMMARYUnder the direction of the Transfer Station Supervisor and/or Assistant, directs all of the operations of the Transfer Station within City of Amarillo guidelines and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Rules and Regulations. Directs the work of the transfer truck drivers, laborers and all other personnel assigned to the transfer station. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel. This position will be subject to 24 hour call back on evenings, weekends, and holidays.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assumes all of the duties and responsibilities of the Transfer Station Supervisor or Assistant in their absence.
  • Directs the work of all truck drivers, laborers and other assigned personnel
  • Maintains good contact with department head and provides feedback on operations.
  • Supervises and insures that all of the required reports and paperwork are completely and correctly filed out and submitted. Takes attendance and reports absences.
  • Checks cleanliness of Transfer Station and recycling areas.
  • Supervises and inspects daily operations of the Transfer Station including heavy equipment, transfer trucks, roll-off truck, and all hydraulic and electrical equipment to insure that operations at the Transfer Station are performed as smoothly and safe as is reasonably possible.
  • Identifies, schedules, and performs/supervises the maintenance activities at the Transfer Station. These activities include removal, rebuilding and replacing pumps or motors, replacing hydraulic hoses, remove and replace hydraulic cylinders, perform welding, and electrical maintenance as required.
  • Investigates and documents accidents and property damage.
  • Conducts and documents safety instructional meetings with personnel.
  • Responds to after-hours calls and fills in for other supervisors as assigned.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience working with industrial electrical and hydraulic systems, medium and large solid waste equipment and tractor trailer trucks. and two years supervisory work experience. Must possess or ability to obtain a Class C Solid Waste License from the TCEQ and must have completed a waste screening class. Valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License must be obtained within 6 months of hire.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical and hydraulic systems, medium and large solid waste equipment and tractor trailer trucks
  • Ability to operate a welder, cutting torch, hand and power tools, front end loader, backhoe, truck tractor-trailer rig, roll-off truck, come-along and drill press.
  • Knowledge of mechanical operation of diesel equipment.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on same equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and avoid hazards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers.
