  • Bachelor's degree
  • Colorado teaching license
  • Speech and Language credential or other valid Special Education teaching credentials.
Preferred:
  • Two years of experience in Special Education or an Assistive Technology Certificate
JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective: Under the direct supervision of the Special Education Department, the AAC/AT [KC1] Specialist provides support, services and consultation to address a student's defined AAC/AT needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The AAC/AT Specialist provides support to IEP teams with consideration of student communication and assistive technology needs. The AAC/AT Specialist provides training, consultation and monitoring of staff in the use of equipment/devices. Essential Functions:
  • Conducts classroom consultations for assistive technology implementation to support least restrictive environments, differentiated instruction, and technology integration.
  • Determines, through collaboration with other members of the assessment team, assistive technology needs as part of a comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation which addresses all areas related to the disability and based on the student's strengths, tasks, and expectations.
  • Provides ongoing support to teachers and students regarding software, device, and equipment with guidance on the proper usage.
  • Communicates and provides any updates with the IT department to ensure the software and equipment used on networked computers are adequate and functional.
  • Provides reports and participates in multidisciplinary assessments to In-School team members as required.
  • Effectively interprets federal and state policy and procedures; tracks and interprets data.
  • Collaborates with IT department to install approved software, determine compatibility and configure access technology.
  • Attends training in technology, software, assessment, and strategies and provides technical support to the team, students, and parents as necessary.
  • Collaborates with school assessment coordinators to support the state and local standardized testing processes and policies in regards to accessibility and accommodations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in their specialty area of assistive technology (e.g., access, alternative augmentative communication, computer-based instruction, mobility, positioning, assistive listening and signaling devices, recreation/leisure/play, vision technology and environmental control, and activities of daily living).
  • Apply discipline-specific knowledge regarding assistive technology and use appropriate assistive technology in a variety of educational settings.
Additional Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Mental Ability
  • Understand the multidisciplinary nature of assistive technology application and contribution of a variety of disciplines to the service delivery process.
  • Understand skills required to serve as a member of multidisciplinary team providing services for assistive technology (ie. ability to include parents as team members, ability to listen and respond to input from other team members).
  • Ability to apply established technology solutions to enhance individual or small work group efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of intellectual and social/emotional needs of students.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communications skills, flexibility, and be a self-directed learner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with district personnel, schools, the community, and families.
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Google Workspace (e.g. Mail, Calendar, Meets, Docs, Slides, Sheets) as well as software applications relevant to area of responsibility.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person environments.
  • Ability to problem-solve, schedule daily activities/meetings, model good communication, and to communicate and work effectively with professional staff and parents.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
