Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Swim School, the Swim Instructor maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas. They will teach youth to adults the fundamentals of swimming, and water safety. They will create a positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement in accordance with 92NY policies and procedures. Job Responsibilities Include:
Ensures the safety of every individual at 92NY, both in and around the pool as well as the rest of the facility. Always be prepared to teach, this means wearing a bathing suit with blue instructor shirt, and be ready to get in the water for all lessons.Instructors teaching parent and child classes through level 2 need to be in the water engaging the students. Instructors teaching level 3 and above, can instruct from deck, but need to be ready to get into demonstrate any skill.Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with 92NY policies and procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.Enforce regulations pertaining to showers, food and drink, conduct.Responsible for following proper sub procedures and finding adequate coverage for shifts staff cannot work. Last minute coverage will be found by the instructor. If the Director does not have written documentation requesting time off 2 weeks prior to the day, then it is on the instructor to find coverage. Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving for their shift, and during all lessons.Attends all staff meetings and training as required.Responsible for keeping the Aquatics leadership team up to date with any changes relating to phone, email or mailing address in a timely manner so that we can update you regarding additions/changes/cancellations to work schedules.Experience, Education, & Skills Desired:
- Minimum age of 16.
- Certifications: Red Cross WSI or equivalent
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate WSI skills in accordance and Red Cross standards prior to employment.
- No educational requirements.

Per Diem Compensation Range
$25 - $40/hour
The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
