Join the Greater Austin YMCA as a Swim Instructor! Teach essential water safety skills and build confidence in swimmers of all ages and abilities. Promote wellness and empower individuals to feel safe and confident in and around water. Being a Swim Instructor is more than just a job; it's the opportunity to make meaningful impact on the lives of youth and community members. We're looking for candidates available for early mornings and weekdays, able to work between 10 - 28 hours per week. Swim Instructors receive a complimentary YMCA membership and monthly in-service sessions to enhance skills and build teamwork.

How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)
* Protect the health, safety, and welfare of all persons in the pool area.
* Maintain the cleanliness of the area.
* Remove items and equipment when finished or those that need attention all needed repairs to your supervisor.
* Follow pool lockup procedures if your class is not followed by another activity.
* Remain on duty until you are relieved?if your class is followed by another group.
* Follow personal attire requirements including wearing appropriate swim attire.
* Communicate and engage with participants, parents, or guardians regarding the progress of class participants.
* Secure your own substitute if you cannot make a scheduled class and provide lesson plans for substitutes.
* Arrive on deck at least 5 minutes prior to class and be ready to start class at the scheduled time.
* Teach classes as assigned by the program director.
* Keep records and reports on classes including completing evaluation of participants, class rosters, attendance tracking and registration procedures.
* Never turn your back or leave the class or pool area while teaching unless another certified instructor can take over.? If no others are available, you must remove the swimmers from the pool.
* Instruct class participants to take a soap shower before entering the pool.
* Render first aid as needed and complete incident/accident report forms for every injury/altercation on the premises.
* Aware of?information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refer members and participants to other programs.
* Know and follow the YMCA of Austin's People Guidelines, Code of Ethics, payroll procedures (including completing timesheets), and established emergency procedures.
* Attend all required meetings and/or trainings.
* Support Center and Association goals and directions through effective completion of tasks and verbal display to peers, staff, members and guests.
* Know and follow YMCA Aquatic Program levels, objectives, and best practices.
* Lead by example the Y's mission, vision and values with program participants, members, staff, and guest.
* Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
* Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Community Enterprise
* Minimum age requirement: 16 years old.
* America Red Cross required, including CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen. Don't worry if you don't have it - we offer certification services for free for future employees.
* YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certifications.
* Excellent swimming skills to perform rescue techniques and maintain endurance.
* Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk and occasionally lift and/or move items including equipment and children. Must be able to remain alert, sit or stand for extended periods of time, hear noises and distinguish distress signals, scan all areas of the pool with clear vision, perform all physical tasks related to instructing and observing participants in proper stroke techniques, communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
