Job Description:
We are working with a family-owned and operated swine production farm that takes pride in their hands-on, community-oriented approach to farming, emphasizing animal welfare, teamwork, and long-term success. They are seeking a dedicated Swine Herdsperson to join their team and contribute to the smooth daily operations of their growing farm.Role Overview:As a Swine Herdsperson, you will play a critical role in caring for pigs throughout various production stages, from breeding to finishing. Working closely with the farm manager and family members, you will ensure that the herd remains healthy and productive. Key Responsibilities:
  • Animal Care & Health Management:
    • Provide daily care for pigs, including feeding, watering, and checking for signs of illness or stress.
    • Support farrowing, weaning, and finishing stages to ensure healthy piglet development.
    • Monitor herd health and report concerns to the farm manager or owner.
  • Breeding & Reproductive Care:
    • Assist with breeding programs, including artificial insemination (AI).
    • Monitor sows during farrowing and provide hands-on assistance when needed.
  • Record Keeping & Compliance:
    • Maintain accurate records of births, weights, treatments, and mortality.
    • Ensure compliance with farm policies and regulatory standards related to animal welfare.
  • Facility Upkeep & Biosecurity:
    • Help maintain clean, well-organized barns, pens, and equipment.
    • Strictly follow biosecurity protocols to ensure herd health.
    • Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure smooth operations.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with family members and other staff to achieve farm production goals.
    • Communicate with the farm manager about herd performance, challenges, and suggestions for improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Experience: Previous experience in animal care, swine production, or agriculture is preferred but not required.
  • Education: A degree or certification in Agriculture, Animal Science, or related fields is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Passion for animal care and hands-on farming.
    • Strong attention to detail, especially in monitoring animal health.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a close-knit team.
    • Willingness to learn and adapt to family farm operations.
    • Understanding of biosecurity and safety protocols.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs (approximately 23 kg) and perform physically demanding tasks.
    • Comfortable working in all weather conditions and farm environments.
