Your primary professional responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Caseload Management

* Create scholar Individualized Education Plans in consultation with, CSE, staff and families to ensure success for all scholars.

* Request, complete and upload Teacher Reports, Related Service Provider Reports at least 10 days prior to the IEP meeting.

* Conduct Vocational Assessments, and draft IEPs in SESIS at least 7 days prior to the IEP meeting.

* Attend all IEP meetings as assigned in a timely manner.

* Ensure the attendance of families, teachers, and students at all IEP meetings by sending CSE created invitations to participate in the meeting at least 14 days in advance. Implement, and review 504 plans in consultation with staff and families to ensure success for all scholars.

* Conduct regular progress monitoring of IEP goals.

Instruction

* Provide high quality instruction in the ICT setting or SETSS small groups.

* Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.

* Set learning goals and adopt modifications and accommodations as necessary to ensure each student's activities and lessons are planned and organized according to their abilities.

* Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.

* Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Create lessons that provide positive and engaging learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using multiple modalities, student choice and interests.

* Implements and interprets various types of formative and summative assessments as determined by individual student needs.

Collaboration

* Implement a collaborative and consultative relationship with the General Education Co teacher by co-planning, co-teaching, and co-assessing.

* Provides consultation to Co-teacher regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of scholars with disabilities.

* Collaborate with the Director of Special Services to conduct diagnostic testing on literacy and math levels.

* Actively participate and engage as a member of the grade level team, in professional learning communities and weekly faculty team meetings.

Classroom Environment

* Create an inclusive safe space where the joy of learning is evident and all students feel seen, valued, and are encouraged to embrace the uniqueness of themselves and others.

* Utilize positive reinforcement and behavior modification to instruct students in socially acceptable behavior to reduce incidents and maintain order.

* Develop and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) where necessary.

Family and Community Engagement

* Maintain regular communication with the families of students on your caseload regarding their progress.

* Support the work of our Family and Community Partnership team by attending and meaningfully engaging in family nights, report card nights, and occasional work events outside of normally scheduled work hours.

* Assist with the safe arrival and dismissal of scholars including assisting with entry and exit procedures.

* Respond to correspondence from families, school leaders, culture teams and teachers within 24 business hours.

* Be a campus-wide model in setting and upholding clear expectations and building strong relationships with staff, students, and families.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Aligned with Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School's Mission, Vision and Core Values.

* Solutions-oriented, determined, strong work ethic, sound judgment and professionalism.

* Bachelor's degree in education required.

* Master's degree in education is strongly preferred.

* NYS Students with Disabilities teaching certification required.

* A minimum of 2 years of related teaching experience in Special Education at the K-12 level, with a demonstrated record of strong student outcomes.

* Relevant years of experience waived for:

* Participants in Alternative Teacher Pathways (NYC Teaching Fellows, Teach for America, NYU Fellows and Relay Fellows)

* Proven ability to meet established teacher goals and adhere to school protocol. Knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning, data analysis, goal setting, and instructional best practices.

* A demonstrable commitment to pursuing equity and inclusion for all students. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. Exceptional strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

Reporting relationships and team

Special Education Teachers report directly to the school-based Leadership Teams. They work closely with the Director of Special Services.

Whenever possible, LAB seeks to hire Teachers certified in special education and/or teaching English to speakers of other languages, in addition to the subject they teach, to provide additional support to students with special needs and/or limited English proficiency.

COMPENSATION

Salary range: $67,789 - $104,578, commensurate with experience and education.
