PRIMARY FUNCTION: As a SCCPSS District Painter you will apply various finishes to buildings, rooms, or other structures, including primers or sealers in all buildings. REPORTS TO: Director, Maintenance & Operations (thru the Supervisor) SALARY SCHEDULE: G-9 WORK DAYS: 250 REQUIREMENTS: 1. Education Level: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate Preferred: A (2) year apprenticeship program; Experience, Skill, and Certification: PAINTING Must have 5+ years direct experience in the field of Painting Applies various finishes to buildings, rooms, or other structures, including primers or sealers. Prepares, cleans, and tapes all jobsites. Removes old paint coating, if necessary. Mixes colors or oils to obtain desired color or consistency. Moves necessary materials around jobsite as assigned. Cleans up worksite debris. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE: Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals Operating knowledge of all electrical and gas lifts of various sizes Preferred: 10 years of experience in commercial and residential painting ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Ability to use the SchoolDude work order system Ability to follow through to verify work has been completed and work orders are closed out properly Ability to work with outside vendors, engineers, contractors, and consultants on projects affecting the painted surfaces of any of the Districts buildings Ability to provide excellent customer service to create a comfortable and safe environment which allows the SCCPSS customer(s) to study, teach and learn at all facilities Perform regular inspections to identify defects on any painted or papered surface Maintain inventory control of all tools needed for painting Covering trim, floors, furniture, and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep them free of paint Setting up ventilators and other safety equipment to protect Painters from unhealthy fumes Preparing surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they're smooth Applying primer and other sealers to paint surfaces to ensure that paint sticks to them Mixing and matching paint, stain, and other finishes to job specifications Applying paint, stain, sealer and other finishes to surfaces using paintbrushes, rollers, applicators, and sprayers Making on-site preparations such as building scaffolding and covering fixtures Preparing walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, and removing old paint Responsible for identifying, estimating, and prioritizing trade related improvements for district properties Ability to manage multiple priorities Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions Personal computer and keyboarding skills Ability to perform math computations needed in the Painting trade Ability to be on call and/or respond to emergency calls Required to work overtime as needed Ability to promote and follow all Board of Public Education policies as well as building and department procedures Ability to communicate, interact, work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds Ensure that all painting equipment is cleaned and inspected after each use to include paint sprayers, line striping machines, pressure washers, etc. Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions Ability to work with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts Ability to read blueprints and/or engineering instructions for the painting trade Assist with construction/remodel plan reviews of painting projects Actively listening to customer preferences Maintain documentations of system installation and maintenance procedures Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License Must be able to lift 60 lbs. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and extended lifts Performs other duties as assigned Must pass a drug test and background check TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Incumbents will be considered at will. Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. This position is considered to be essential personnel, critical staff when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules. The work calendar will be 250 days.
