POSITION:
DREAM Guidance Counselor:
Guidance counselors support the social and emotional well-being of DREAM students and support their families in
learning about the NYC high school application process, as well as conduct family outreach.
Position and program are budget dependent.

Various locations citywide (see table below)

Applicants must be available for in-person assignment. Mid-week pre-service training can be done remotely.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
New York City Department of Education tenured and licensed Guidance Counselor with at least five years of satisfactory experience; Guidance Counselors presently working in the middle school level are preferred. Satisfactory rating in most recent rating.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
* Experience in middle school guidance and the high school application process
* Knowledge of all NYCDOE policies and procedures about the high school admissions policies, experience with MySchools, and strong knowledge of the eight specialized high schools
* Demonstrated dedication to equity, making sure that all students receive the support they need to achieve a common standard
* An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the complex emotional, social, and academic needs of middle school students
* Proven track record of using culturally responsive strategies when working with students and families
* Experience facilitating parent workshops and knowledge of adult learning principles
* Knowledge of national and state standards for counseling
* Ability to promote and ensure a positive DREAM experience for all students
* Knowledge of culturally responsive-sustaining education
* Experience with modifying guidance pacing calendar to meet the needs of DREAM students
* Excellent communication skills
* Documented record of excellent attendance and punctuality
* Strong computer and technology skills and experience using ATSSUM and google platforms
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Lead guidance sessions to DREAM students on topics related to identity, goal setting, managing stress, the specialized high schools, the SHSAT, and the high school application process
* Conduct outreach to students/families and provide ongoing support to ensure students have the resources needed and register for the SHSAT.
* Prepare student reports to reflect whole-child progress, incorporating DREAM academic progress as well as social/emotional development
* Connect DREAM students and families to appropriate or necessary resources and services
* Support Site Supervisors in maintaining attendance records
* Attend pre-program orientation/training meetings, as scheduled
* Liaise with host school leadership to ensure a successful experience for DREAM students and staff

6 Saturday sessions from Saturday, September 7, 2024 to Saturday, October 26, 2024
Instructional Hours: 8:30am - 1:30pm
Dates and times subject to change based on need, budget and SHSAT administration date.
Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.
SALARY:
Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
