POSITION:

Supervisor

Next Steps Advisor: Supervisor (10 positions available)

NYC Public Schools College and Career Planning team, in the Office of Student Pathways, is seeking to fill up to 10 Supervisor positions for its Next Steps Advising Program. Next Steps Advising is a virtual college and career advising program that will be offered during the Summer 2024 to provide supplementary support for current high school students developing their postsecondary plans.

During program hours, high school counselors, social workers, and teachers working as college and career advisors will provide advising sessions to current high school students and their families to receive personalized support with pursuing postsecondary pathways, including technical assistance with postsecondary applications, financial aid, list making, dual enrollment programs, and writing personal statements.

High school administrators and Education Administrators are needed to supervise the program. Training will be provided prior to supervising the Next Steps Advising Program.

Next Steps Advising Program supervisor is Kimberly Hall, of the College and Career Planning Team.

LOCATION:

In-person at various NYC Public Schools locations throughout the NYC 5 boroughs.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

NYCDOE (New York City Department of Education) licensed and appointed Supervisors.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

At least three (3) years of satisfactory (Highly Effective/Effective) experience within the NYCDOE in addition to the following:

* Preference is given to bilingual staff in any of the 10 DOE languages (Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu)

* Preference is given to returning staff who have demonstrated quality advising support to students and exemplary attendance

* School-based experience with college and career readiness in the last three years

* Knowledge of all DOE (Department of Education) policies and procedures regarding guidance and promotion requirements

* Experience guiding students through the college application and enrollment process

* Experience with one-on-one post-secondary counseling

* Familiarity with transition/linkage coordination

* Willingness to learn new skills and commitment to attend professional development activities

* Demonstrated success working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders

* Access to laptop/desktop and internet connectivity

* Willingness to work evenings and weekends

* Familiarity with STARS, transcript evaluation, and review

* Willingness to conduct student planning meetings in person or virtually

Must be able to attend training session(s), which may be in person

Knowledge of Chancellor's Regulations A550 and A750

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Participate in training prior to Supplemental Postsecondary Advising Program.

* Supervise appointment hours and respond to participating school counselor, social worker, and teacher needs in a timely manner.

* Manage scheduling and staffing for appointment hours to meet student and family needs.

* Provide oversight for documentation of support provided in STARS Postsecondary Tracker and New Visions Data Portal.

* Coordinate timely processing of per session with secretary and administrative staff.

* Fulfill other program-related supervisory duties as assigned by the Work Supervisor from the Office of Student Pathways

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market-aligned career pathways and labor market

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of postsecondary programs (e.g. CUNY, SUNY, private institutions, opportunity programs, military, apprenticeship) admissions processes, and financial aid offerings

WORK SCHEDULE:

Up to 10 hours per week from July - August 2024. Specific dates to be determined. Additional hours granted upon the approval of the hiring manager. Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
