Position Purpose
Ensure the safe and reliable operation of the distribution system utilizing SCADA, OMS, communication systems, and associated control center equipment. Coordinate switching and outage requests with member systems and other interconnected utilities. Aid in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and initiating repairs of electrical distribution system problems.
Job Dimensions
- Internal Responsibility - Perform basic to advanced operation commands that ensure safe operation for construction personnel. Engage in Tri-County Electric Cooperative principles to support and maintain a safe and positive environment to better serve members.
- External Responsibility - Ensure that TCEC's standard system operation practices are reasonable and acceptable best practices that promote safe and reliable operations. Ensure the safeguards of sensitive cooperative and member information.
Principal Accountabilities
- Models the TCEC Essential Attributes as a regular pattern of behavior and self-awareness.
- Required to work rotating shifts covering the control room 24/7 including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Monitor SCADA systems and respond appropriately to alarms, including contacting the correct personnel to inform, log, and carry out alarm corrections.
- Issue hotline and clearance orders to field personnel so they can perform work on primary lines.
- Write and review switching orders, which can include completing required mapping updates on the system.
- Demonstrates proper actions to keep voltages and load flows within acceptable values along with recommending possible reconfiguration for restoration of load upon a loss of line/source.
- Display the capability of working in a high-stress fast-paced environment.
- Shows the ability to read and understand mapping as well as the key functions of its general purpose.
- Handle multi-outage events by properly managing the priority of actions and establishing a plan for power restoration.
- Utilize spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing software to track statistics.
- Use telephones, faxes, radio, and telecommunication equipment to communicate with required personnel.

Minimum Requirements
- Education - High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience - Prior work in the utility industry with a comprehensive background in dispatching is preferred.
- Certification/License, etc. - Northwest Lineman College certification is preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Must maintain a continued education that supports the Cooperative's goals. Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to deal with a variety of internal and external contacts. Ability to stand, and walk; frequently sit, bend, stoop, squat, lift, and carry between 75-100 pounds; push and/or pull; reach above shoulder level; and twist; to climb, balance, kneel, crouch.
