Description This position is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and support of all server operating systems, application software, and appliances, as assigned. Additionally, this position oversees the operations of systems administrators and security analysts. This position is also responsible for overseeing and managing information security. This position serves as the primary technical resource for all of the information security programs/needs and is responsible for developing and implementing information security administrative educational plans. This position works closely with supervisor and other departmental leaders to ensure consistent and high quality IT services are provided to all university consituents, including students, faculty, and staff. Essential Job Duties
  • Maintain a comprehensive information security program and lead planning efforts in support of systems and processes;
  • Develop and implement policies/procedures, and ensure compliance with existing information security guidelines and requirements for both on premise and cloud-based systems;
  • Monitor security events for network, database, processing, storage, backup, firewall, endpoint, IPS products, and other information security systems;
  • Develop, coordinate, and lead security orientation/awareness training programs and communications for campus;
  • Coordinate, support, and perform security reviews, audits, and risk assessments;
  • In direct consultation with supervisor, develop and maintain a university security incident response plan and processes and serve as the primary contact during significant information security incidents;
  • Serve as a resource for information security issues to the University community;
  • Provide periodic reporting on information technology risk and compliance issues to supervisor and/or university administration;
  • Work with vendors to request software/hardware renewals and/or upgrade price quotes;
  • Oversee and assist with daily operations of systems administrators as well as the management and maintenance of systems, including but not limited to: Microsoft environment (on campus and cloud), system center environment, backup environment, virtual environment, user shares, as well as the Linux environment;
  • Design, implement, manage, and monitor technical, administrative, and physical controls to protect information resources, both cloud-based and on premise;
  • Monitor email and provide remediation for spam and phishing attacks;
  • Serve as system administrator for specific systems and GDPR data protection officer;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Perform regular network and system vulnerability scans to ensure proper compliance and confirm appropriate security posture;
  • Serve as system administrator for spam filtering, multi-factor authentication, security certificate management, single sign on, and privilege access management systems;
  • Read literature, participate in conferences, and perform other related activities in order to understand the leading-edge developments in IT-related and information security-related fields;
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, monitoring, and support of campus business system integrations;
  • Provide guidance and oversight for vulnerability management and system hardening;
  • Represent the department and university at a variety of on-campus meetings or off-campus technical or information security conferences;
  • Ensure that necessary documentation is complete and kept up-to-date.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a related field AND three years of systems administration or information security-related experience is required; -OR-
  • Seven+ years of systems administration or information security-related experience is required;
  • Experience supervising personnel is preferred;
  • Information security-related experience preferred;
  • Risk or compliance experience preferred;
  • Project management experience preferred;
  • Experience in security information and event management, security incident tracking, end-point protection, cloud services security, and/or encryption is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Security+ certification required;
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and/or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification preferred;
  • Microsoft, Linux, or other operating systems certifications preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to install, secure, and maintain various server operating systems including analyzing, diagnosing, and solving issues;
  • Ability to establish performance measures to ensure security and systems efficiency and reliability;
  • Knowledge of software/hardware compatibility issues, file storage capabilities, and redundancy/survivability issues within a networked architecture;
  • Knowledge of recovery and backup strategies;
  • Knowledge of information security and data security frameworks and best practices;
  • Knowledge of project management methods and applications;
  • Advanced understanding of local area networks, firewalls, basic security tools, virtualized infrastructures, and file storage capabilities;
  • Ability to facilitate problem-solving among groups with varying needs and priorities;
  • Ability to use Microsoft and Apple Operating systems and applications;
  • Ability to use work order system;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
