Westmoreland Mechanical Testing & Research is looking to fill our System Administrator role. In this position you will be involved in maintaining all computer systems and network servers. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual who wants a chance to work in a fast-paced environment, all within the Latrobe/Youngstown area. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
  • Installs and upgrades computer components and software, manages virtual servers, and integrates automation processes
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Provides documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Performs or delegates regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Leads desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Keeps current with technology trends and changes related to position
  • Acts as the point of contact for upper management for project management and updates
  • Leads and motivates the staff to assure timely network support is provided across all functions
  • Encourages a continuous improvement culture where technological trends are constantly evolving
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
  • US Citizenship required
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of database, network administration, or system administration experience required
  • System administration and IT certifications, Microsoft, or other network related fields are preferred
  • Working knowledge of virtualization and VMWare
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality and a strong sense of discretion
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Possess outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in team environment and is flexible to changing demands
  • Ability to stand, sit, or move around for prolonged periods of time
