Engineering Services designs, builds, and sustains technology that powers DE&E Technology's worldwide content production and distribution platforms. In doing so, they contribute to a series of cross-functional services and technologies, including Quality Assurance, Data Analytics, Software Development, Broadcast Infrastructure, and Networking & Security.

The Instrumentation & Application Infrastructure Team at Disney Streaming Services is responsible for the architecture, implementation, and management of the infrastructure services that powers observability, content processing and delivery globally for a range of streaming products including ESPN+ and Disney+. From managing the bare metal, virtualization, and container platforms; to ensuring that the underlying infrastructure services operate at peak performance, the Instrumentation & Application Infrastructure team is intimately involved.

We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer to join this world-class group. The ideal candidate is a team player with a rich and diverse technical background.

Responsibilities:

  • Development, Implementation and Management of global observability & content delivery infrastructure
  • Development of configuration management and automation tooling to handle various deployment and administrative tasks (Ansible + AWX, Jenkins, Shell Scripting, Python development).
  • Management of critical infrastructure platforms used by a wide audience of users: Grafana, ELK, InfluxDB, Kafka, Splunk, Clickhouse, Prometheus
  • Fielding Tier 2 escalations from systems operations staff, and participating in an on-call rotation.
  • Perform project & ad-hoc engineering tasks in an on-prem and hybrid (on-prem/aws) environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience or more as an engineer or systems administrator, with a high focus on DevOps/SRE style work.
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Ability to communicate effectively and help foster a positive working environment.
  • Excellent Knowledge of Linux (Redhat based distro preferred, Ubuntu), with well established experience with Linux Systems Administration.
  • Experience managing highly scalable, fault-tolerant service deployments.
  • Experience working with some type of VM virtualization framework.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or container based clustering technologies.
  • Strong scripting skills (BASH/SH, or code bases such as perl/python/etc.)
  • Experience using configuration management frameworks (Saltstack, Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Demonstrable logic and troubleshooting skills (OS and Network).
  • Experience working with Source Control Systems (git in particular)
  • Experience with load balancing technologies (haproxy, nginx)
  • Experience using CICD tools (Github Actions, ArgoCD).
  • Experience with monitoring, metrics, log aggregation, and visualization tools (Grafana, Kibana, Datadog, Splunk, Elk, Prometheus, InfluxDB)
  • Ability to write clear & concise documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Dell & Supermicro hardware platforms
  • Experience building Kubernetes applications
  • Experience managing Kubernetes clusters. Knowledge of Rancher is a plus.
  • Extensive development skills, with examples of past applications created. Python is preferred but other types of high level languages are acceptable.
  • Ability to create and design improvements to existing build and configuration methods, formulate a plan with the team, and manage the deployment to implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, testing, and implementing large scale solutions
  • AWS Experience (ec2, s3 etc)
  • Experience in Tech Operations or Observability
The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $98,000 to $131,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
