Talent Manager - Early Career Consultants

Job Overview: The Early Career Consultant Group (ECC) is BTS's pool of early-tenured consultants. The Talent Manager is primarily responsible for the staffing and performance management of 30-40 consultants across North America. They are in constant contact with their consultant group to know and understand their current strengths, development objectives, personal preferences, and career goals. You'll also frequently interact with Partners and Talent Managers in other parts of the business to assemble consulting teams and remediate any issues. A successful Talent Manager will proactively, delicately, and empathetically balance the needs of the business alongside the preferences, career goals, and development needs of the consultants.

We have a hybrid work environment with expectations of being in the office 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities:

Talent Management

  • Understand BTS's performance management framework and competency model and how it applies to consultant situations.
  • Participate in monthly meetings to discuss consultant performance and highlight any situations that require additional follow-up.
  • Support the performance management process, including the analysis of performance outcome results and the bi-annual promotion review.
  • Monitor consultants' performance and development. Facilitate a culture of open, transparent, and real-time feedback by working with Project Leaders and other team members to deliver ongoing feedback.

Resource Management

  • Ownership of the project staffing for your consultant population (30-40 consultants across North America).
  • Track consultant performance, skills, and development needs to help guide career growth and skill and capability development; ensure consultant data (project reviews, skills, certifications, etc.) are kept current and readily available.
  • Respond to staffing needs across client teams and recommend the best available team of consultants for each project, balancing team and individual development needs.
  • Facilitate matters relating to the departure of consultants or consultants taking leave, including transitioning projects.
  • Ensure all consultants have fair and equitable access to all opportunities.
  • When consultants are available, manage all non-billable requests to effectively utilize their time.

Talent Development

  • Coordinate appropriate training for consultants.
  • Coordinate consultant onboarding and integration. Develop and manage orientation and training.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to consultants on strategies for success, individual career development, and training plans in alignment with increasing tenure. Maintain trusted relationships with consultants.
  • Monitor consultant morale, engagement, and retention using available data to identify trends and recommend plans.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in a fast-paced and dynamic client services business environment
  • Management consulting and/or Human Resources experience preferred

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort in having conversations with a variety of stakeholders (Partners-Consultants) as well as projecting confidence in the message that you are delivering
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; as well as an ability to learn new tools and become a super-user of the systems/databases we use
  • A strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy as you may be asked to juggle several tasks at once; as well as the ability to organize, prioritize and manage own time effectively to meet deadlines
