Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely transport students around the district to cross-campus courses.
- Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
- Affect a calm temperament and caring demeanor around children from a variety of cultural backgrounds and economic circumstances.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
- Must be willing to support Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
- Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
- Accept and implement coaching and training.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the community
- Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain a clean, safe and presentable interior and exterior of the vehicle.
- Maintain accurate records of student ridership.
- Maintain current knowledge of all student requirements, such as medical protocols, IEP's, etc. and respond appropriately to events by following written protocols
- Ensure students are properly secured in required safety equipment and restraints.
- Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including, vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, timecards, directions, etc.
- Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations
- Utilize technology when required
- Immediately report accidents
- Ensure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy
- Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Report all moving violations to Transportation Manager, including any received while on or off the clock
- Clean van as designated by department procedures
- Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class D3 Chauffeur's license
- Must possess and maintain excellent driving record meeting MVR background check.
- Successful completion of a school bus driver course.
- Work well with others, including all personality types
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Davenport
- Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must pass and maintain all DOT physical requirements.
- Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
- At least two years of professional driving experience.
- Experience working with children from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements
