Job Description:

Metro Nashville Public Health (MPHD) is seeking a Communicable Disease Investigator (CDI) to join a team dedicated to Tuberculosis Elimination (TB) throughout Nashville and Davidson County. The ideal candidate will have experience in public health field work, and knowledge of immunizations, disease control, and investigation of reportable diseases in a community health program.

* Participates in a multi-disciplinary team following clients with tuberculosis infection and or disease. Counsels and conducts contact investigations.

* Performs targeted testing for tuberculosis as established by TB manual.

* Provides community education regarding TB through lectures/presentations to various community groups.

* Performs PPD skin testing.

* Coordinates and assists with screenings at community sites most accessible to high-risk populations. Serves as liaison between Health Department and physicians, infection control nurses, hospitals, other Health Department employees and interpreters.

* Conducts site visits to assess environmental conditions and determine risk status and counsels appropriately.

* Delivers client health directives, memoranda of understanding, and official Health Department notices. Performs directly observed therapy and counsels clients regarding medication compliance and side effects. Transports clients to clinic as needed.

* Assists with case management of clients with latent TB infection.

* Completes required forms and documents.

* Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences, Public Health, or related field.

* Valid driver license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

* Knowledge of infectious diseases and contact investigations.

* Bilingual (English/Spanish).

* Ability to work with diverse populations and to work as member of interdisciplinary team.

* Two (2) years of progressively responsible full-time paid employment in related field.

* Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations applicable to public health agencies.

* Knowledge of community organizations and resources applicable to program needs and objectives.

* Ability to interview, counsel, and communicate effectively with patients.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule and interact with diverse populations.
