From growing your agricultural businesses to moving Texas products worldwide, TDA works to promote the bounty of the Lone Star State at home and abroad.WHAT YOU'LL DOThe Outreach and Events Specialist will perform moderately marketing work for the Texas Department of Agriculture's (TDA) Trade & Business Development (TBD) division. You will be involved in assisting with coordinating marketing and trade promotion activities, providing support and technical assistance to Texas businesses, and developing professional relationships to promote Texas agricultural products. You will work under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESActively recruit and retain participants for applicable TDA programs and assist them in seeking and developing new market opportunities. Assist will all functions of events and activities, including but not limited to, ensuring businesses are prepared for the event, communicating with participants, staff, and others involved, coordinating travel details if applicable, and preparing reports at the conclusion of activities. Design and distribute applications and mechanisms to collect follow-up information from partners and measure feedback and results of events each yearResearch and recommend new sources for participant recruitment.Attend various functions to promote Texas products, to include stock shows, county/state fairs, trade shows, in-store promotions, conferences, webinars, chef/farm tours and other special events.Follow all TDA policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. This may include contributing work efforts to other program areas, including assisting TDA Regional Offices with special projects as needed.Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITIONBachelor's degree (one year of work experience related to the primary responsibilities may substitute for one year of college).One (1) year work experience in marketing, outreach, or event coordination. Experience working for or with small businesses.Work experience making presentations to groups.Valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESKnowledge of marketing products, services, and associated equipment; and of the principles and dynamics of marketing and merchandising.Skill in conducting presentations to individuals and groups, and in the use of a computer and applicable software; providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers; and in the use of a computer and applicable software.Ability to develop marketing strategies; and to communicate effectively and exercise sound judgment and discretion.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONSThis position will work in a normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel (up to 20%*), occasionally overnight.TELEWORK & WORK HOURSTDA has a telework policy that will allow eligible positions to telework up to two (2) days per week after completing six (6) months of employment with the agency.
