Must meet requirements for paraprofessionals set by the Illinois State Board of Education 2. Training and/or experience working with students with disabilities preferred 3. Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively and fluently in English 4. Competent in utilizing a computer to communicate via email and in using an office productivity suite like Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Word) or Google Apps for Education 5. Demonstrated compassion, patience and teamwork Physical Requirements: 1. Standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling is required 2. Must have the ability to lift and move 60 lbs. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s); Teacher(s) will provide guidance JOB GOAL: ? To assist the teacher and students in achieving their educational goals ? To assist students in a variety of settings within the school and on field trips ? To support students with a wide-range of disabilities so that they may participate in classes and activities with peers PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (These are intended as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.) 1. Reports to work on time 2. Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance 3. Reads and responds to district/building communications in a timely manner and within any explicitly defined deadlines 4. General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the teaching of special education populations 5. Works with individual students or small groups of students to support/reinforce classroom lessons and objectives as directed by the teacher 6. Works with students in both structured and/non-structured settings to provide appropriate modifications and accommodations as directed by student Individual Education Plans 7. Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher 8. Assists the teacher in monitoring student behavior/academic progress 9. Lifts, moves, and operates adaptive equipment 10. Escorts students as assigned by teacher or administrator 11. Assists students with mobility needs including but not limited to lifting, loading and unloading on bus, transporting students in and around school and on field trips 12. Assists students with personal care tasks including but not limited to: using the lavatory, changing clothing, managing hygiene, diapering, toileting, washing 13. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips 14. Works with/assist teacher in supporting classroom instruction, providing materials and creating a positive instructional environment 15. Assists teacher in implementing Individualized Education Plans 16. Shares information and student concerns with the classroom teacher in a timely fashion 17. On a weekly basis, establishes a time within the school day to collaborate and discuss expected duties with the teacher 18. Helps students with their clothing, lunch, snacks, and clean up routine 19. Organizes and maintains student records, information and files as directed by teacher or administrator 20. Serves as a source of information for substitute teachers 21. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality 22. Demonstrates effective management of his/her time and student schedules 23. Implements and follows the District's Health and Accident/Injury Procedures and Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan 24. Supports and implements the District's Risk Management Policy to ensure that statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees, and students, to provide careful supervision and protection of all District real and personal property 25. Conducts himself/herself as a role model for students 26. Participates in professional development/training programs as directed by building or district administrator(s) 27. Completes all District required trainings and adhere to all Board policies and procedures 28. Performs additional job duties as assigned by the building /district administrator(s)
