Position Type: Teacher/Teacher - High SchoolDate Posted: 11/8/2024Location: ATEMS High SchoolDate Available: 01/05/2025Primary Purpose: The Maker Space Learning Resources Manager must be a highly motivated educator who has deep knowledge of the intricacies of a successful Maker Space lab and is proficient at operating and maintaining a wide variety of equipment and technology-based resources. This position requires someone who is self-motivated, self-directed, and has a broad knowledge of STEM-based hands on projects that can be completed by secondary students. These projects should address the TEKS, support classroom instruction, and enrich student learning and exploration. Safety, organization, student supervision, and instruction are key. We are seeking a teacher who can think outside of the box and has a creative mind for building, designing, inventing, and creating. This teacher will oversee the daily operations of both the Maker Space and the Learning Resource Center at The LIFT. Qualifications: Highly qualified teacher with full Texas certification; Minimum of 2 years successful classroom experience in teaching math, science, or technology; and Experience operating a Maker Space lab preferred. - Ability to effectively develop and deliver engaging professional development;
- Knowledge of and experience implementing and consistently enforcing safety protocols required for large and small equipment in a lab setting with both students and adults;
- Demonstrates ability and experience planning engaging, creative, out of the box lessons;
- Demonstrates exceptional skill in the area of technology, including but not limited to the following:
- Experience with 3D prototyping, printing, and equipment;
- Experience with image editing, CAD/CAM applications, and design software;
- Experience running and maintaining personal computers;
- Experience using manufacturing and carpentry equipment;
- Experience with robotics;
- Ability to learn, use, and teach new technology.
- Experience analyzing equipment needs, making effective purchasing decisions, operating a program within allocated budget parameters, and adhering to established purchasing procedures;
- Experience writing and implementing grants is beneficial.
Performance Responsibilities and Duties:
- Establish and maintain the equipment, routines, and safety protocols for the Maker Space lab at The LIFT Center
- Develop and maintain inventory of all equipment in Maker Space lab.
- Provide differentiated projects and learning opportunities for students based on individual student interests;
- Support and guide students who use the Maker Space to complete individual and/or small groups projects, both as part of a course and as part of an independent endeavor;
- Maintain an organized, clean, and visually appealing lab at all times;
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and help implement lessons and extension activities that address the TEKS and enrich instruction and learning in the Maker Space;
- Obtain and use evaluative findings to examine program effectiveness;
- Plan, improve, and oversee evaluation of The LIFT Maker Space and Learning Resource Center including potential presentations to the AISD Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, and administrative teams.
- Assist the Director of The LIFT in the preparation and administration of the budget for supplies and equipment for the Maker Space and Learning Resource Center.
- Work with the Director of The LIFT and AISD LRC supervisory personnel to manage the materials and supplies of the Learning Resource Center, including check-out, collection, inventory, repair, and communication.
- Continually create, disseminate, and creatively communicate information regarding the opportunities to use and learn with the Maker Space and Learning Resource Center.
- Plan and provide professional development for teachers, administrators, and staff in Maker Space activities and opportunities that support TEKS, classroom instruction, individual student projects, and student growth and exploration.
- Welcome and communicate with campus visitors regarding the Maker Space and Learning Resource Center.
