Position Purpose - Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in basic and advanced plumbing techniques, tools, and practices, as well as an understanding of the application of plumbing principles in practical and real-world scenarios. This position aims to prepare students for successful careers in the plumbing industry by providing comprehensive instruction in both theoretical and hands-on aspects of the trade. Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law
Performance Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers a plumbing curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, hands-on learning, and student engagement.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for plumbing, translating them into practical learning experiences to develop sequential skills, challenge students, and effectively utilize instructional time.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in plumbing, including pipefitting, water supply systems, drainage systems, and repair techniques, and promotes problem-solving and critical thinking in all related activities.
- Designs learning activities that demonstrate the application of plumbing skills to everyday tasks and real-world problem-solving.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including those with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as necessary.
- Maintains familiarity with district and New Jersey State vocational standards and certifications for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement and certification success.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the plumbing and educational fields by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Compensation 2024-2025 contractual rateThe Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center. In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees.
