Teacher of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (TODHH) 2024-2025 School Year POSITION TITLE: Teacher of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (TODHH) Department: Special Education Reports To: Director of Special Services & Related Services Coordinator SUMMARY: This position is a certified teacher of the deaf/hard-of-hearing (TODHH) who provides expertise to school teams and provides appropriate educational services to students (3-21 years) with hearing loss that is affecting their educational performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned. •Assess students to determine the impact of the hearing loss and areas of potential need as part of the eligibility determination, evaluation, and IEP team processes. •Consult with parents, administrators, and classroom teachers to determine appropriate placement, yearly IEP goals, and appropriate services. •Provide parents and teachers with information necessary to help students with hearing needs to access the curriculum in the academic environment and/or functional skills for them to be successful. •Schedule and conduct services (individual, small group, push-in, and consultative) for eligible students. •Maintain responsibility for the completion of IEP goals and IEP/504 accommodations. •Travel between schools to provide services to students with identified hearing needs. •Monitor progress and complete interim and/or quarterly progress reports for students on your caseload. •Monitor the use of hearing technology/communication access. •Maintain service files, therapy logs, and student attendance for compliance purposes. •Complete all forms and procedures required by the Medicaid Program for eligible students. •.Attend in-services/conferences to remain current on hearing issues. •.Engage in evidence-based practices and adhere to federal and state due process guidelines. •Complete the ADEPT mentoring and evaluation process as required. •Develop and progress towards the successful completion of yearly professional goals (Goal-Based Evaluation). •Perform all other duties and responsibilities designated by the Related Services Coordinator. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students and assumes other supervisory duties as assigned by the building principal, Director of Special Services, and/or Related Services Coordinator. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge of various Hearing Impairments and best practices for supporting students with disabilities.The ability to work well with people; and demonstrate and maintain positive interpersonal skills. This position may also require communication modalities dependent upon student needs (i.e. Listening and SPoken Language, Total Communication, Sign Support).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: - SC Teaching Certificate in Special Education Deafness and Hearing Impairments
- Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret, professional journals, technical instructions, assessments, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and business correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community in a professional manner.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to score formal and informal assessments that are administered to students. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
