Position Type: Student Support Services/SPED TeacherDate Posted: 10/14/2024Location: Oak Grove Middle SchoolDate Available: 10/28/2024Closing Date: 10/21/2024Job Title: Teacher - Special Education (Inclusion) Reports To: Principal or Director of Special Education Receives Guidance From: Principal, Assistant Principal, Lead Teacher, Local School Chair, and/or Director/Assistant Director ofSpecial Education Overtime Status: Compliant with position, salary, and FLSA regulations Job Purpose: The purpose of the Teacher-Special Education is to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women; Develop and implement the student's IEP through direct instruction and coordination of activities/work with the teachers at the local school.   • Plan, develop, and implement the students Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Assist in implementing and assuring the completion of any related services the student might receive as set forth in the student's IEP
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at the assigned school and at times designated by the Principal
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of principal
  • Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
  • Implement, by instruction and action, the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Implement District initiatives pertinent to student's age, grade, and/or placement
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports according to district policy, as well as, the policy that is set by the state for progress marking of an implemented IEP
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and to maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants as needed
  • Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position
  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Regular, dependable, in person attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
  • Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by LCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
Qualifications: Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Education Certification: Hold an appropriate Mississippi Educator License or valid emergency certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board.
