Teaching and Student Support Fellows (2025)Department: High SchoolEmployment Type: Seasonal - Part TimeLocation: New York, NYCompensation: $20.00 / hourDescriptionBreakthrough New York seeks dynamic and talented college students (or recent graduates) to teach and support high school students-primarily during our monthly Super Saturday programming. Teaching and Student Support Fellows will be responsible for delivering instructional content in a structured and supportive classroom of 10-15 high school students. Teaching and Student Support Fellows receive training, professional development, and ongoing guidance from full-time BTNY staff throughout the school year. Fellows also support students during structured enrichment events and field trips and may engage with them in mentorship activities, tutoring, homework support, and a variety of high school readiness/career/college-focused workshops.Teaching and Student Support Fellows will work with students from the beginning of 2025 until June 30th, 2025.YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Working onsite during 4 Super Saturdays throughout the academic school year.
- Co-leading classrooms lessons and facilitating small-group activities in support of full-time BTNY staff.
- Completing 6 hours of mandatory training (plus optional professional development opportunities).
- Supporting select enrichment events at the BTNY office or as a chaperone.
- Receiving feedback constructively in order to improve performance.
- Tracking and reporting classroom and student meeting outcomes.
- Providing select academic support as schedule/interest allows.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Is passionate about supporting low-income and first-generation students on the road to college attainment.
- Takes a strengths-based and growth-mindset approach to student development and mentorship.
- Is an excellent listener and loves asking open-ended questions.
- Enjoys public speaking, dynamic classroom environments, and working with energetic young people.
- Understands the importance of timely data collection and management.
- Will respond to email, phone calls, and texts from students and staff within 24-48 hours
- Has an interest in teaching, higher education policy, developmental psychology, or related fields.
- Can commit to working between Beginning of 2025 - June 30th, 2025
- Is confident with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular), Google Suite, Zoom, and comfortable learning new systems.
- Preferably has some interest in mentorship or college admissions.
TEACHING AND STUDENT SUPPORT FELLOWS CALENDAR:
- Teaching and Student Support Fellow training: Saturday, January 11th.
- Ongoing professional development opportunities around higher education policy, college admissions and access, curriculum development, and college application writing/editing.

ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENT:This role requires approximately 45 hours of paid work including:
- 24 hours of Programming across 4 Saturdays throughout the academic year, 9am-3pm
- Up to 20 hours of additional enrichment, support, and engagement activities throughout the year.
COMPENSATION:Teaching and Student Support Fellows will be compensated at $20/hour.
